I bought that for her last year for her 78th birthday, and had #78 on it with Brinkman on the name line.

As many families can attest to, us kids often would claim that "mom likes me best", or some variation on that. and of course, you have to say that in front of a sibling as well as mom, so you can get a reaction. and mom's consistent reply was always "i love you all equally"

well, drat. that didn't work.

so over time, us kids settled on the claim that "our mom loves her children more than other moms love their children"



Dad is visiting mom now, I may talk with them later. we'll see.

Sibling rivalry is always good. Sounds like your Mom is a very wise lady.

just had a chance to do FaceTime with Dad and Mom, she sounded good, was enjoying eating anything that was on the menu (no further diet restrictions), and knows she is heading home tomorrow morning. so i'll likely call again once she is home and i'm done running errands tomorrow morning (life does go on here).

an exciting morning of oil change for the truck, drop off Raazor's bowl at UPS, get some fire logs at home depot, and cash a check at the bank. thrilling!

The facetime thing is wonderful as it's the next best thing to being there

for several years, mom and my older sister would FaceTime almost everyday, sometimes multiple times per day. i'd normally just call on the phone a few times per week at most.

she liked seeing my mug and my very short haircut.

just got a call from dad, mom is home safely. that's all i know.

under hospice rules, if she declines, say her BP or pulse drop, they do not call 911, they let happen whatever happens.

Mom passed in her chair, watching the birds. We didn't call anyone until it was over. Sometimes that's the best thing.

Hoping your mom shakes this off, however!

same thing with my dad... no drugs or anything to prolong life, just make him comfortable.

My mom died while I was standing next to her. I saw it happen and.....it was horrible and traumatizing. A small stream of bile or something trickled out of her mouth. I took care of my mom for almost 5 years, in my home, bathing, cooking, everything, but I almost wish I hadn't been there when she passed. She was out of it on morphine anyway. The hospice folks....knew. They ordered morphine for her a couple of days before she died, so at least she wasn't in pain.

Doug, I hope the best for your mom, and you and your dad. I know EXACTLY where you are at right now.
