If there is a national sales tax, everyone gets to participate based on their level of consuption.

So if I'm a "rich" guy I pay the same consumption tax as the "poor" guy for "necessities".

Then for the "extras" (like a boat, extra home, ATV, etc...) I pay even more taxes on the sale of those items.

So the "rich" are still getting taxed more for their spending on their "toys" while also getting the same tax on "necessities" as the "poor".

Seems pretty fair to me.

The working poor and middle class spend more as a percentage of income on buying things than the rich. So as a percentage of their earning they will pay more.

And thats regressive. Look at the countries that have VAT taxes. Then compare them to countries that have flat taxes. Flat tax countries outperform VAT and Progressive tax countries.

How would a "Flat Tax" in your opinion work?

Flat tax. = single rate across the board. You make 10K or you make 1,000,000,000.00 you pay the same %.

Is it "Fair" no. But I don;t believe in Fair. I believe there are winner, losers and people who never give up.


Does it work, Yes. Does it increase tax revenue and reduce non compliance Absolutely. and in the places here implemented it significantly helps the economy.

Sounds way better than the POS system we have now.

It is effective, clean and mostly equitable. It does the right thing in reducing income tax evasion, make everyone a shareholder in the countries finances and levels the playing field so everyone knows what they will have to pay as they grow their income levels.

We in the USA pay more per student for education than any other country in the world except Switzerland yet we are among the lowest industrialized country in the world for quality education.

I am all for supporting education...I was an education major before I discovered I don't like kids, LOL...But I don't see money going to where it needs to go to, and when it is "going to the schools" not being distributed fairly and where it needs to go. In my area, sports teams/cheerleaders get new uniforms every year, the arts (band, chorus, drama) are selling candy bars, candles, and having car washed to raise money to buy new uniforms. Sports teams get new equipement (balls, coolers, etc) every year, while general ed teachers are going out buying pencils, crayons, colored pencils, etc out of their own pockets...I have a friend who is an elementry school art teacher, who last year spent almost 4K out of pocket so her students could have the supplies they needed (in VA, all elementry school students grades 1-5 take art once a week as a requirement)
