I'm going off his first post. What kind of reliable car are you going to get for $1000 anyways especially to commute 50 miles back and forth to work?

Annual bus pass comes to mind.

Back in '93 Kerry got an '85 Caprice with ~74,000 miles on it for $1000. He sold it with 330,000 miles on it. That was with me driving from Macon to Atlanta for work doing above the speed limit, hauling 4 grown men, 1 of them being 6'5" 260#. The trunk was also filled with construction tools.

Then I say he needs to find an '85 Caprice with 74k on the clock for a grand and leave us the hell alone.

In 2011, you would have to double the price.

You would have to adjust the years of the vehicles then.

Personally, I wouldn't touch anything 4WD for a grand.
That's one reason i am looking at them. I don't need anything fancy or fast right now. I just need something a little better than the minivan till I can get something a little better than that and keep moving up to a decent DD.

That's all well and good but find a 2003 anything with 74K miles on it for $1000.

I was responding to someone saying it can't be done. You are being obtuse.

Southern Indiana. It's snowing now and we are supposed to get 4-6" today. Some years we don't get much but then sometimes we might get 18".

Small town Midwest has them. Get away from the big cities where people want more and drive more.

Southern Indiana. Forecast 4-6 inches today. The heaviest snow season is mid Jan to late Feb.

What kind of job?
If we get more than 6" or so, half our people don't come to work as they live anywhere from 25-75 miles from the office.

FWIW, we had two snowfalls last year that were over a foot, but I wouldn't buy a car based on 2 storms a year.
