Son, you picked the wrong man to call a racist. You know nothing of my character. All you know is that I'm a Conservative and, therefore, I must be evil. Political beliefs have little, if anything, to do with racist attitudes.

A case in point: Senate Republican Leader Everett Dirksen (R-IL) overcame Democrat attempts to block the 1965 Voting Rights Act; 94% of Senate Republicans voted for landmark civil right legislation, while 27% of Democrats opposed. The Voting Rights Act of 1965, abolishing literacy tests and other measures devised by Democrats to prevent African-Americans from voting, was signed into law; a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats vote in favor.

You may be surorised to know that African-American civil rights leaders Martin Luther King and Ralph Abernathy voted for Republican Dwight Eisenhower for President. President Eisenhower signed the Republican Party’s 1957 Civil Rights Act. Sparking criticism from Democrats such as Senators John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, President Dwight Eisenhower deployed the 82nd Airborne Division to Little Rock, AR to force Democrat Governor Orval Faubus to integrate public schools.

President Ronald Reagan established the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, to increase African-American participation in federal education programs. He also signed a 25-year extension of 1965 Voting Rights Act.

President George H. W. Bush signed the Civil Rights Act of 1991 to strengthen federal civil rights legislation.

But yet the Democratic Party website claims this:

“Democrats are unwavering in our support of equal opportunity for all Americans. That’s why we’ve worked to pass every one of our nation’s Civil Rights laws… On every civil rights issue, Democrats have led the fight.”

Joe, you assume that because I'm a white Southerner I'm a racist. That comment firmly establishes that you are a bigot.

I could care less about your politics. My comment was directed at your recent postings. You are the same guy that started a Robert E Lee thread on MLK day.

My kids are 17 and 12. My wife and kids and I still have a home cooked dinner every week night and Sunday night together, at the table, with the television off and no electronic devices are allowed. If a phone rings or a text is sent, then so be it, they will get a reply when we are finished. It's the only way I can find out how my kids day went and whats going on in their lives.

When I was a kid, family dinner was the lo point of the day, never enjoyed it, it was bitch at Gene time, even over nothing....

still today I seldom set at the dinner table, unless it's just wife and me alone....I eat at the lunch/bar counter near the stove with her mother/aunt/family here.....

My kids were 4 & 6 when the ex left, I never enjoyed dinner with kids involved either, Oh, I set at the table, listening to her and the kids bitch back and forth,

NOW, the gal I dated/lived with for about 5 years there, SHE was from an American Diplomatic family, in the middle east of all places, before we became targets there......SHE demanded decorum at the table, and my kids were cutting up one weekend after she fixed Sunday breakfast....I tried to silence them down, and she finally got tired of it and slapped her open palm hand on the table so hard the china jumped.....the kids got scared and ran upstairs....and after THAT there was never an issue with their manners at my place.....

There has been an effort, especially over the last 20 yrs., to remove and distort anything related to Southern Heritage and history.

You betcha' - NASCAR, Hank Sr., Allman Bros. etc,....but, they try to paint anything to do with Confederate soldiers or the Confederacy, like Nazi's. You can't display a Confederate battle flag, you can't play Dixie, you can't name a street or dedicate a statue with any relation to Confed. history.

You can rename streets to civil right's people, unveil statues of them, etc...the media loves that.

My GG Grandfather fought and died with the Confed. Inf. to try and give me a better place to live. Just like the soldiers of 1776. If I want to do something to honor him or his leaders. I get labeled as a racist.

All new production models of The Dukes of Hazzard General Lee car can't have the Confederate flag on the roof anymore either.

Because some people cannot separate the South from Slavery. Some never will.

How would this be a better place to live had they won?

Sad and true. It is engrained into the minds of every kid in school. No one wants to teach them the real facts and numbers about it.

Of course this would not be a better place to live, based solely on the slavery argument. Looking at the bigger picture, though, of States' Rights vs. Big Brother seeking to control every aspect of our lives--guns and ammo, automobile gasoline mileage, even what we eat--I believe an argument to the contrary could be made.

The City I work in is 62+% Black, yet any re-districting of voting districts or school districts requires Justice Department approval. Oh, come on! There are no all-white neighborhoods here any longer; there is no way in Hell anyone could come up with a majority white district. If that isn't a racist attitude on behalf of the Federal Government I don't know what is.

For what it's worth:

Quote:
It was the eye roll seen around the world.

During the seated lunch on Inauguration Day after President Obama was sworn in, Michelle Obama was seated in between her husband and Speaker of the House John Boehner, when the latter said something that made the first lady roll her eyes.

We may never know what caused her to look so perturbed, but Inside Edition contacted a lip reader to make out what the Speaker was saying. Supposedly, he asked the president if he had had the chance to have a cigarette before the luncheon, from one smoker to another.

Boehner then tapped Michelle’s arm and said to the president, “Somebody [Michelle] won’t let you do it.”

Is this what he actually said? Maybe. But whatever it was, Michelle did not think it was funny. Remember that the next time you try and get a rise out of the first lady.
