Incredible how damn heavy it is too and those lath strips are incredibly flammable. If you remove any walls or portions, save them for starter logs.

How difficult is it to rip that shit out and put up drywall?

I've tried many different ways including chipping the old plaster out. A bit easier with the old horse hair plaster walls.

Honestly, the easiest way I've found to do it is to sawzall every other stud horizontally then use the lath strips as leverage to remove large chunks of plaster without it crumbling.

Downside is it's heavy as hell but using a hand truck we walk out the chunks and throw 'em in the dumpster.

I wouldn't recommend it, particularly for higher humidity areas. Same idea as not roofing over an existing roof. You can, but you'll have moisture issues.

Other problem with going over the top of existing plaster is all your mouldings will have to be removed and/or replaced.
Just not worth it unless you're looking for a quickie cosmetic solution but it will cause problems down the road.

Yikes. Second question, how much does it cost to have a demo crew come in and do it while I go hang out on the boat.

I'm using a pry bar and hammer. It is a pain in the butt but it has to go.

Until we get our dumpster, I'm taking it off some sheetrock and paneling stuff now and putting it in 100 lb flour sacks (benefits of having a bakery in the family).

My brother is saving me them for me, so I could start the demo
