He's in a coma, but I don't know if it's a medically induced coma or not.

4 hours ago insiders were saying "serious, but not life threatening", but that was before he was moved to the hospital he's in now, which listed him as critical.

Seems he went from "prognosis good for full recovery" to "critical condition, coma, prognosis unknown" around 3pm EST.

It appears the injury did not look severe, but his condition worsened. It's not clear, but the report I read made it sound like he slipped into a coma and was rushed to a different hospital that specializes in brain injuries.

Not good. Pretty rare to survive a brain trauma without life-changing effects.

German media statement circa 4pm EST:

Michael Schumacher has suffered a brain hemorrhage in his serious skiing accident on Sunday in Meribel. The French media report citing a hospital source. Schumacher is treated in the trauma center of the University Hospital of Grenoble. According to information obtained by Radio Monte Carlo, his wife Corinna and his two children are with him. An official medical bulletin does not yet exist. Even the announced statement of Schumacher's press department is still pending.
