If your chassis has rotten before the rest, that is a shame. Sorry man.

Using relatives as a base, and averaging my parents, I ought to be okay until my mid 70s.

Another form of political correctness: downsizing.

That can be depressing and make one start counting how many years are left.

I have been sorting and simplifying accumulated stuff since 3 out of our 4 kids left about 1.5 years ago. I have now had enough of this so called political correctness, would rather start some big new projects again.

This.

I hope I never see my last "conquest" completed.

I hear what you are saying, and am far from being PC, but I don't think my family wants any of my empire of junk. I guess they can deal with it when I am gone though.

I'm 58 now, and in a wheelchair for doing nasty things to my body.

If I don't quit smoking, the future in terms of longevity ain't good.

You can't take it with you, and you are not yet ready to slow down so don't. Finding pleasure in life is proven to increase longevity, and activity and challenging your mind help keep you young as well. The kids will be alright whatever you do, so go for it.

As someone said, I'm at the age (74) where I hesitate to buy green bananas... But both my grandmothers died well into their 90s and my mother is still alive and healthy at 93 so, genetically, I hope for another 20 years...

My 100th birthday is on a Friday. And I would like to die on April fools day. But if God has other plans I'll be flexible. I plan to leave anything I have accumulated to my kids.

My neighbor and good friend is coming home from the hospital today, to be on hospice. He's 59.

A little not-so-optimistic news: Your health will at some point make the decision to downsize for you. Although you will likely still enjoy driving the cars, you will no longer like the care, maintenance, repairs, and washing and waxing the cars. I'm not quite 60, but my family history says I won't live to 80. That's why I've already sold the "crown jewel" of my collection, and I'll sell 2 more of the remaining 5.

Assess your family history and make a WAG how long you have. The only decision left is to pick the condition of the market as to when you will downsize. You don't have to sell everything! But keep only those few cars you want a son or daughter to have and that are your favorites. Sell all parts, though: Your wife/children will probably have no idea what the parts are, where to sell them, and what they're worth. Those NOS parts you have will likely be of no use to you in your lifetime.

I'm less concerned with how long I'll live, than I am with how long I'll die.

At 57 I have lived 5 years longer than any male on my father's side of the family save my Dad who was smart enough to get help when he needed it. Twice so far and planning to do it again at 81. I live like I am going to be around forever, make plans for 25 years hence and don't care if I don't get that far since it won't matter to me if I don't. My point is try and live your life to the fullest. Do whatever makes you happy and ride it like you stole it all the way to the end... whenever that may be.

My motto.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

When he committed suicide, they asked his widow if he had left a note. She said he had been leaving his suicide note for 40 years. And I had been reading it the whole time.

How exactly is downsizing a sign of political correctness?

There's a lot of crap I saved FOR YEARS that I was going to put to use "someday." What I discovered was that I was carting around shit in boxes from one residence to another and that someday really never comes. Everything got tossed that I no longer needed. The kids were told to come get what they wanted or it was being tossed or given away as well. My house is now neat and more organized than it's been in years and I couldn't be happier.

There's nothing politically correct or incorrect about downsizing. It's simply a choice by which you decide to live your life when your needs and family situations change.

I don't dwell much on my own passing, and just guess I will probably get about the same as my Dad did, so leaving me maybe another 20 if I'm lucky.

But what I do think about... is how to build a automated online income to take care of my kids should something ever happen.
