Default MOTHER F$&@!ING HOSPITAL!!!

Sorry, but this is a rant.

As a 26 year veteran of the medical field (Paramedic) I have worked for hospital-based services, for-profit services, and a county-based service. Last night, November 20, 2020, I received absolutely the worst most neglectful care I have EVER received as not only a paramedic but also a patient. I arrived with transfer packet in hand (POV as opposed to transport via ambulance) at 0100. As my wife and I walked in, we were told my wife could not wait in the waiting room or in the exam room with me. WE WERE TOLD SHE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT OUTSIDE IN OUR CAR! 1 o'clock in the morning and you want a small woman to wait in a parking lot that is patroled maybe every 30 minutes by a security car. After 2 and 1/2 hours, I had been triaged and taking back to a "holding area". That is the best I can describe it. ONE nurse had eventually strolled by and after seeing me pacing and standing due to restless leg syndrome. Informed me, "If you have to pee, just take that off (the pulse oximeter) and the bathroom is right there." Later on a return trip, I was told there were no beds open. Then why did you accept the transfer from Texas Health Stephenville? The ONLY reason I asked for southwest was because it was the closest. That was when I removed the mask, pulse oximeter, and blood pressure cuff and walked out. I had full intentions of handling my issue on my own after leaving your facility consequence be damned. It was then that I remembered Baylor All Saints. WE proceeded to the ED there, were accepted into the ED, (MY WIFE INCLUDED!!!) and by 0900 this morning we were on our way home with the issue resolved. MAKING MY WIFE WAIT IN AN UNSECURED PARKING LOT ALL NIGHT IS INEXCUSABLE! Want to know how to treat patient's and their families, Go to Baylor All Saints and take notes. Negative stars, would not and will not recommend.
The staff at THR Stephenville were fantastic and were as accommodating as they could be. Thank you to Dr. Clark and Brook and all others who helped. I am truly sorry I either have forgotten your names or never caught them. To the staff at Baylor All Saints, THANK YOU!!!! I have been a patient in an ER on a few occasions and you were all the best there is. Dr. Chang, Emily all of you did FANTASTIC!. To the surgical staff, NONE BETTER!

A hospital should make accommodations for persons there with an emergency patient. Should not be told to wait outside.

I believe many hospitals have adopted this practice due to Covid and do not want any unnecessary exposure. This is not the first case I have heard of people not being allowed to accompany spouses or friends recently.

Friend of mine Dad was dying. His wife was there. Doctor had to ask admin to let their daughter in to console her mother. She waited outside, was let in and screened for temp etc and wrapped up in PPE but was there for the end.

Unfortunately that's about the norm for hospitals I've been too, 90% of the staff has been shitheads to be frank. They all act like they hate their jons and doing me a favor... Go work someplace else then i say.

Glad you got your issue resolved man.

A great many of them have had the shits of their jobs. My wife did, and she no longer works in a hospital. They are overworked, overwhelmed, and nothing they do is good enough. Add in some progressive ideology on the parts of leadership/management, and you have a complete shit show.

Sux for you, OP, but glad you got the care you needed.
In your line of work, you must see some things that
makes one wonder, is it worth it? Of course, there's no excuse
for the way you were treated.

Hospital visits at this time are somewhat gruesome.
I was in isolation for 13 days (covid positive when I entered),
and could not have visitors for the stay. Nurses and Drs had to
don special disposable gowns upon entry, and trashed them before
leaving the room, I thought I was on the moon the way they dressed
covered head to toe. My room door was always kept closed.
Long days, 3 visits each of the 2 shifts for vitals,
and a nurse wanting to inject heperin in my belly every other visit,
made for a very long day.
While I didn't enjoy the stay, I must say I'm pleased with the care
I received. I was in an affilated hospital of one of the largest medical group in Wi., and it is part of the medical college of Wi. Of the 30 plus nurses and CNAs I had, only 2 of them were "people with attitudes"
Sorry for the rant, but I certainly understand your ordeal.

Well due to the covid problem I do not know how this works today. This was quite common in our large city hospitals!

Quite a lot of a certain minority never seem to have a doctor! So when they need one they show up at a local ER and they bring the whole dammed family.

I have seen as many as ten people with the potential patient just hang out. I must assume this is now controlled, but it could prove interesting as they do not take instructions too very well and can get quite violent.

Well, on the other hand, when I was going through chemo and became neutropenic, they had me sit in the emergency room with a crapload of sick people.

Long ago I stopped seeing hospitals as the fantasy "caring centers" they are. I think it was actually watching "The Bucket List" that was the final straw. They are simply a business. They are NO DIFFERENT than a garage, or a restaurant. There are those that suck and those that suck even more and the only "caring" that exists is a sprinkling among the actual workers and still you're probably talking about 1 in 10. Just like the waiter that wants you gone so the next table can tip him and the mechanic who wants you gone so he can get the next car in.

It is simply a machine, a cold hearted, business. Nothing more. If they happen to help, great. If they don't, oh well.

My wife works in Housekeeping at the local hospital. This was her weekend to work.

In all their supreme brilliance, they had her in the Covid floor most of the day ( her regular area-- she's all suited up ) and then had her clean PEDS ( pediatrics ) to finish the day since they don't schedule enough people on the weekends.

Hope you are OK. Hospitals are the worst. Even before COVID. This idea that family can’t come in is bad medicine.

Unless I can't make it to my Primary Care, I don't go to the hospital for any reason. I have no good experiences with the ER rooms...wait times, not knowing what's going on, they lost my ex-wife one time after waiting 7 hours (miscarriage) while I was on TDY in Kommiefornia and my mother had flown out from FL to get her. Complete shit.

I was unable to get any of my needed medications down past the blockage I had. I
Had resolved myself to extracting the blockage myself until my wife convinced me the risks of esophageal and tracheal perforations were quite worth it.
