Default Damn good thing GWiz stayed home this semester.

The "This is me" came from the faculty advisor G's worked with for 4 years.

Graph is current as of yesterday's new cases.

UA announced 200 something pre-screenings before classes started and Monday an additional 531 cases. Mayor shut down all bars and restaurant bars for 2 weeks. There are some ticked off people here.

Unc has hundreds of cases just in last couple of weeks...
Personally I would have had to think twice about sending a child to live at a college until this clears.

Withdrew our kids from school and hired a teacher to do home schooling in hopes of a better education. No Covid is an upside as well.

The school called us and left a message saying a student in my grandsons class has tested positive for the Rona. It went on to state that he was not a close contact and is not required to quarantine. How do they know if he was a close contact unless they tell us who it was? I'm sure this kid cannot remember every person he came in contact with.

I guess people don't seem to realize that a college-aged student's chance of even getting minor symptoms, let alone dying from C-19, are practically non-existent. When H1N1 was raging in 2009/2010 the Obama administration stopped all testing in the summer of 2009 because "well, it's already out there, no use in testing all those people anymore." and everyone was fine with that. And most of these tests aren't even accurately diagnosing actual C-19 infections, instead they test for a particular type of antibody protein that can be caused by pretty much every other coronavirus like the common cold. The inventor of one of these tests has repeatedly said that his test shouldn't be used the way they have been using it for this very reason.

The flu is more dangerous to young people than C-19 is, by a lot actually. And no-one suggests we test the hell out of students for the flu every year. Common sense has pretty much fled the arena.

Until this clears? Just what does that really mean and how many years will that take? Hiding in our houses for years is absurd.

We've gone insane and too many people support that.

Edit: Georgia Tech's enrollment is well north of 30,000, and closer to 35,000. From the graph it looks like 440 students have been diagnosed with COVID in the past several months so the world is ending. Yup, we have officially gone insane.

In other news, those reported cases are inaccurate due to cases being reported multiple times.

Whatever man.... I ain't hiding but college kids are being stupid and spreading the shit like crazy. Put yourself in a bad situation and bad shit happens is all I'm saying. Knowingly going where chance of exposure are highly elevated is their choice. Chances are if they'd follow guidelines this shit would go away and quick but seems they won't. Like let's not have big parties for one..but nooooo.

In person classes are not the issue, dumbasses having parties in dorms/frats is the issue.
Yes they're probably not going to die from it but doesn't make it right to spread the shit around either does it? It's all fun and games until people you know get the shit and start dropping or give it to you isnt it...
As for the amount of time, all they're doing is extending the time we have to deal with this bullshit and things get back to normal(which we all want).

440 cases out of 35,000 people isn't "spreading like crazy."

We just sent out an email requiring all students that live on campus to pick a day/time to get their weekly test.

Everyone on campus must comply

Just to put more perspective on NUMBERS.

Our current case total started with JUST 1 case in the US, sometime around Dec 19/Jan 20 in just a few months, so imagine where 440 in one hotspot gets us.

Actually, there are hundreds of thousands of unreported cases because they are asymptomatic OR do not have access to testing. So I assure you, if anything the TRUE number of positives is actually UNDER reported, not OVER.

CDC is now saying (as of today) if you have spent more than 15 minutes with anyone that ends up testing positive, you no longer need a test and should self quarantine even if you are showing no signs.

Serious question: Why do positive cases with no symptoms now count more than deaths? Doesn't herd immunity rely partly on people getting it and developing some immunity? Why don't we protect those at danger of death (elderly and those with pre-existing conditions) instead of trying to "stop the spread" instead of "flattening the curve" like we were originally told?

If there really are hundreds of thousands of unreported asymptomatic cases that's a good thing for developing herd immunity.

Meanwhile, at least 10,000 more deaths from cancer are predicted because of the pandemic, which seems to be perfectly acceptable. 10,000 more cancer deaths predicted because of COVID-19 pandemic

We've gone insane and lost all common sense and perspective.

I’m in close contact daily with COVID positive individuals. I’ve been tested four times now, and am still negative. Take some basic precautions. I clean my hands frequently, I wear a mask, and I sanitize touch surfaces. While the chances of dying is rare, the chances of catching it are pretty good.

I never said positive cases counted more or less than deaths or hospitalizations. I was simply replying to a comment that the numbers are over inflated due to "multiple tests being counted" (which is rare) and does not happen here.

Herd immunity is great with some viruses, chicken pox, measles and other viruses. Think about viruses that are ne and done:.

Why does herd immunity not have the same application here? As we learn more, catching this virus does not appear to offer ANY long term immunity, so herd immunity is not helpful. I have had MANY patients with known COVID test negative for AB just a few months later. So immunity seems to be very short lived.

As far as the cancer/screenings.... I run a cancer screening clinic. We are back up and running full speed, with smart precautions. My patients are not waiting in a waiting room. They check in on the phone and come into the clinic and go straight to a room. I cannot speak for other states, I just know what we are doing here. We were shut down for a couple of months but are all caught up now.

All valid concerns.

More than that, the thing that bothers me the most is the people dying ALONE. I feel that is inhumane and they need to make special arrangements for these and other scenarios. I literally have nightmares about patients dying alone without their family.
