No one does better gun control than the US Army. They'll give you a weapon when they want you to have it. Otherwise it's a control item under lock and key.
Are you a gun owner?

I don't hunt, no need for protection and don't target shoot. Had three friends who turned their weapon on themselves by committing suicide. Shocking since all three were great guys.

It's crazy that a government would let civilians have a military grade assault weapon like the AR-15. Australian did a mandatory assault buy back years ago. The New Zealand president mentioned today the NZ will change it's gun laws. Think they will follow Australia's lead.

The government has military grade assault weapons, they are called M4's and whatnot and have select fire. Which AR-15's do not have. And you can commit suicide with a 1860's era revolver easier than you can a long gun of any kind. And when seconds count the police are only minutes away. I personally had a friend, a coworker, who said much the same thing - he didn't need a gun for protection. He and his wife had moved just outside the city limits a few miles, the nearest house to his was about 1/4 mile away. I told him he should at least consider getting a 12-gauge for home protection. He laughed and said that would never happen.

A few years ago his wife left for work while he had that Wednesday morning off. He was putzing around his house about 8:30 AM when someone showed up and started breaking into his front door. He retreated to his bedroom and called 911. While on the phone with the 911 operator, he heard his front door open. The operator asked him if he had a gun. He told her he didn't, and he was going to check to see who this intruder was. The guy was right outside his door in the hallway. On the 911 call you can hear the guy's voice say "Well, shit. Sorry." just before he pulled the trigger and shot my friend in the heart, killing him. The guy was never caught, although they are pretty sure that same guy had broken into numerous other homes and was responsible for perhaps two other murders.

Anywho.

Let's look at some facts

From the late 1960's until the mid 1990's crime rates soared.
From the late 1970's to the mid 1990's mass shooting rates doubled
From the late 1960's until the mid 1990's gun laws got tougher
From the late 1960's until the mid 1990's gun ownership rates went down.

From the late 1990's to today Gun murder rates are down
From the late 1990's to now mass shooting rates have remained stable
From the late 1990's to now gun laws have gotten more citizen friendly
From the late 1990's to now gun ownership rates have gone up.

There is NO correlation between access to guns and higher crime rates.
There is a very high correlation between access to welfare and the enabling of single mother households to significantly higher crime rates.

There is a significant correlation between mass shooting rates and the changes in involuntary commitment laws.

But you keep blaming the gun, not the failed culture of Welfare or the failed SJW programs of de institutionalizing the violence prone mentally ill.

Bwahahahha first the ar15 is hardly a military grade anything...it’s a weak semi auto gun that shoots a seriously small caliber.

Second what’s even crazier is a free people would allow its own government to use weapons like the ar15 against its own people, that’s what’s crazy.

one of my shooting buddies has a concealed carry permit, and his family and close friends are aware of this.

he tells me that one time he and some friends were headed out to some social function one evening, and one jokingly asked if he was carrying. "yes" "oh good, that means you can protect us" "sorry, nope, i carry to protect myself and my wife only, you are on your own".

laws do not prevent crimes.

police do not prevent crimes.

you cannot control where criminals go and do.

but you can be ready to respond to them if they show up around you.

the police have no duty to protect you, they carry guns to protect themselves.

if you believe you don't need protection, that's fine, but don't count on others to protect you, police or civilians. you are on your own.

The AR-15 is not a military rifle and "AR" doesn't stand for an automatic rifle. The AR-15 is NOT an automatic weapon.

What did your friends have to do with New Zealand or the AR-15? The killed themselves for personal reasons, most like cowardice.

Law abiding citizens do not go out on a rampage. If the AR-15 wouldn't exist he would have used a bat, a machete, a sword or cyanide.

On the contrary, I read that every drink you have and every cigarette you smoke takes ten minutes off your life.

I've done the math and apparently I died in 1817.

What a great model, now only the criminals have weapons.

Ask the Australian Farmers how easy it is now to control vermin and pests on the farm now that almost all weapons have been banned.

You get fair market value for giving up your 2nd amendment right to protect yourself? You carry a cop with you now?

Sorry about your friends but if they wanted to off themselves there is always another way to do it. You going to want to give up bridges, tall buildings, trucks, trains, medications and rope too?

The AR-15 is far from a "military grade assault weapon". It's semi auto only which right there removes it from the assault weapon classification.

Do you want to be a citizen or a subject? The 2nd amendment was created to keep the Government in line. Plus, I have a responsibility to keep my loved ones safe. The police aren't there as your personal bodyguard and I'm sure they'll be right over to take a report from someone if something happens.

Your choice but I am disappointed that you won't take responsibility for your own safety.
