My favorite one was when a firecracker went off while he was giving a speech not long after the assasination attempt. Without even blinking, he said "Ya missed me."

Sadly I'd have to say he was & will be, The United States' last truly Presidential President.

That's what made Bedtime for Bonzo such a great movie...his presidential style with the chimp.

Seriously, he was a great president because he understood what leadership was...a somewhat lost art in the 21st Century (and the last decade of the 20th as well).

He brought the country out of some very hard times. His policies weren't necessarily popular with everybody, but they got the job done for the most part. We need a man like him again

I was in NYC on business about 10 years ago, and one of my acquaintances asked me, "What do you consider to be your most important vote for President?" Without hesitation, I said, "Ronald Reagan." My friend was taken aback a little.

"Here's why," I said. "He certainly was no scholar. Some say he didn't have a full grasp of the issues facing the world. He in fact probably did nod off in Cabinet meetings. And her certainly wasn't a pioneer in race issues, the environment, or social ills. But he was exactly what this Country needed: a leader. Someone you could look up to, one you could trust with our money and one you could trust to do the right thing. He focused this County again on how great we could be and are. He made you believe in this Country."

I still believe that about him.

You are certainly correct. I did not mean to imply that Ronald Reagan was a racist--he certainly wasn't. I was saying that Reagan did not crusade the rights of blacks, as Clinton did and Obama does. Reagan had a much more color-blind approach: He promoted a better life for all Americans, regardless of race, and he was successful. He had the wisdom to know that promoting gains for a specific race was counter-productive, self-defeating, and only led to resentment.

He did not advocate affirmative action for blacks because he saw that as a crutch. Instead he promoted opportunity and prosperity for all..and it worked for all.

A point we just rehashed in the Mayor Nutter thread. Reagan was ahead of his time

Barry Seal was a friend of my family's. What he and Bush did to him, leaving him twisting in the wind, while they took credit for Barry's innerworkings with the drug cartels and helping to bring the Colombian cocaine trade in America to a virtual crawl, bordered murder in of itself.
