How do you park in a parking spot, drive in or back in?

This was a question asked recently in a local newspaper and received plenty of contentious debate. I drive into a parking lot spot because backing in can make it difficult loading items into the rear of your vehicle. Plus people who back in often make it a major production and hold up others trying to get through.

My observation is people from the lower strata’s of life tend to back in, I’m guessing they do it because they never know when they’re going to have to make a fast getaway. What’s your opinion?

F-250 is a back in. I don't park near other cars as a rule.

It depends on the situation. But driving an F250 I will back in if I can. Makes for an easier get away.

At my old job, most customers were oil and gas and they were all required to back in, as well as visitors. It had to do with their evacuation plans.

If I go to a concert or some other event, I back in so I can get out easy.

Subaru, park as is. Corvette, back in. Dually, park way the F away where I can take up 2 spots.

Forward or back....which ever way the hot CA sun is not shining into the windshield .

I back in. People who drive trucks commonly do this. The issue is, if there are others around, drivers behind you in a parking lot, nobody understands what you want to do, you pull forward one way, intending to back in, and they'll try and drive around you, even when the the only open parking is on the side you are trying to back into.

I like parking in the South 40 to avoid this, but sometimes, in small lots, it is unavoidable, and it's just easier to park head in, because no one else would understand what you're trying to do, unless it's another pickup driver behind you, in which case.....he knows.

Edit: A relative worked for an oil company, they gave driver training to their employees (not truckers, just regular employees) that backing in was safer, and they even insisted on that at their job sites. I used to see signs like that on industrial sites.

Yep, us high brow F250 concessionaires (don't know how to spell canna sores) always do it the right way.
But I couldn't do it without the camera.

Back in as I know how to use those "silly things" hanging on my doors called mirrors.

Plus makes it easier to leave as you never know when speed racer is coming past.

I doubt that most drivers could back into a spot of they had to. Most will "pull through" when there are multiple double-loaded isles, to avoid having to back out.

I'm always amused at when drivers pull through at a supermarket or big box store, then come out with a buggy full of shit, then have to open their trunk to load it. If someone's behind them they have no room to do so. Some will then prove their assholeness and force their cart between cars next to theirs, and the uber-assholes will use the hood of the car behind them to stage their shit.

Always avoid pull throughs.

depends on the situation but prefer having an easy out when applicable. I usually park far away too

Large 4 car driveway makes it easy to back out so I just pull in forward and call it good.
