Nope, but only a sucker would go to a third world country 8,500 miles away to buy a wife. I've seen it few times, they arrive, and within 18 months they'd be gone.

There was an idiot in the CF that bought one in Thailand. he flew there, dressed like a lesbian nun and there was a town party. He was proud, posted the whole experience. She arrived, and her under the radar team coached her. A year later she kept all furniture, his C5 coupe, and I bet he also paid alimony.

Not mail order but online dating, I guess in reality there isn't much difference except she reached out to me instead of the other way around.

I never had to initiate any messages to anyone, I was getting many messages each day from someone wanting to talk to me. I think the first eight hours online I got something like 140 messages, some legit and some scams and it wasn't just from the Philippines if was from all over to include Filipinos in the States.

Here is my wisdom on this on line dating... I did the same thing as Greenman did but only difference was I did it on a Colombian site and with a different twist. I think Colombian women are beautiful as well as women from Brazil. You have to keep in mind that these third world country women are all trying to escape poverty and their countries for a better life for them and their children if they have any. I can't blame them for this who wouldn't. I start a conversation with a very pretty girl that is 47 and has two grown children 22yrs and 25yrs old. This girl looks a lot younger and has a killer figure. I talk to her for several months and she wants me to come visit her. I don't get on airplanes and less go to a foreign country to meet someone that I really don't know or really 100 per cent trust. I told her if she wanted to see me she has to come here. She tells me she has no visa or passport to come. I told her to go get them. She tells me its not that simple there to get a visa
but she told me she would research it. She tells me a few days later that the passport she can get from the city that she lives in but for the visa she can only get it in Bogota which by airplane is 1.5 hours away and by bus 10 hours. She tells me that she will do it but has no money to do the aforementioned things. From speaking with her I knew that she did not have the cash. She asked me if I would send her the money and I said NO but I did tell her that I would reimburse her the money in full when she got here. I never thought this would happen. I was wrong she borrowed the money from a friend made a 10 hour bus ride to Bogota and back home got her passport within three weeks and the visa within a month which she says is unheard of over there. She came here for 2 weeks we hit it off great, what a nice person and very pretty. She had a great time and cried when she had to leave she was hoping that I would tell her to stay. I'm not ready for a life change like that at this moment. I reimbursed her for all her expenses plus I gave her money to pay all her bills off when she got back home. We talk every day and get along great so see if you play it rite these on line dating sites can result in a good thing you just have to play it smart.

I considered Colombian and Brazilian sites before moving to Germany, I agree beautiful women.

I tried out a site here in Europe and very attractive eastern European girls wanted to talk, all were saying they want out of their country. Due to my job, they would have to provide me personal information for a background check before I would be given permission to date someone (job requirement), so I passed on this site.

Finally signed up at a Filipino site. Same thing, all were saying they want out of the Philippines for various reasons. For the Filipinos I can meet, get their personal information then start the background check, at least we can date if we want unless something negative is found.

I have had several people tell me to my face to stop looking in the Philippines instead go back to the US and find a white girl my age to marry (no lie), starting to look like this tread is almost there.

I went though the same stuff in the 80's when I married my now ex-wife, she wanted a better life out of South Korea, even back then I was being told the same thing I am being told now by those that heard a story or an isolated case. We lasted 30 years and the divorce was mutual.

The bad part about the Filipinos that so many are trying to get away most are not able to get out financially or never get approved for a tourist visa, ever. I have the time and money to travel to see if there are sparks, I do not need a visa to visit and it is easy for me to go and visit, no brainier for me and I get to see a country I have never been in before.

If there are no sparks I will still make the most of my visit to the Philippines, it is a win-win for me, no regrets regardless either way.

Based on constructive comments, I am better prepared to visit the Philippines, I work with several people that visit often and are confirming what I am being told here.

No disrespect to anyone, but if you think I am being stupid to travel to the Philippines or maybe to another country later, keep your opinion to yourself.

I am sorry to hear about your bad divorce, I hope you can someday move on from that time in your life but that is a choice you will have to make as I have already made some decisions on risks I am willing to take.

I was really lucky with my divorce as it was mutual, we grew apart, she got all of the furniture and household stuff but I was OK with that as I kept my toys.

Even though I haven't been divorced long, I have been unhappily married for many years but waited until my Boys were grown to move on, now is my time to move on to my next phase of my life and looking for a chance to be happy.

I am surprised I am getting the same attitude (not here yet) I dealt with in the 80's from my family and friends, marry a white girl, leave those brown girls alone, etc.

I got good advice here for things to look out for, thanks to all. Last time I decided to get married it was for 30 years and I have two great Sons from that marriage.

I know this is moving fast, I want to meet to see if I want to continue with this Filipino girl or not, she is not pushing me coming down at all. I am taking some precautions, making hotel reservations and not telling her where just in case she has friends that want to jump me, she isn't asking where I am staying so all is good so far.

Either way, I am going to have a good time in the Philippines.

Sometimes when folks ask me to describe the Philippines, I tell them it's like Hawaii but much cheaper.

I have been looking at a lot of videos online, looks like a really pretty place. I know there are bad guys there but most of the videos everyone seems really happy and friendly even if they are dirt poor farmers.

I am sure I will have a good time.

This trip I plan on sticking around Makati tourist areas, no plans to venture out to far. Maybe later when the trust is there I can get out to other areas that would be safe for me. A lot of the Philippines I am not allowed to visit even though some of the areas are popular tourist areas.

True story... first time I went TDY to Clark it was just myself and another airman. We hadn't been in country for more than 5 days before my buddy came down with the clap. So I drove him to the "clinic" on Clark, you know... the one in the basement of the hospital. LOL! I was completely floored when I found out the clinic had photo albums containing pictures of most of the working girls! My buddy had to point out the ladies he had spent time with so they could be tracked down and given a silver bullet too.
