Default Somebody slap me!

A friend got a project boat several years ago and attempted his first outboard engine rebuild. You all know what's next...
It sat uncovered in his back yard for years and years as he picked at the motor. The steering cable froze. The floors got punky. And he ALMOST finished the rebuild.
He's sick of looking at it and offered it to me for free. I said OK.
I thought I had learned my lesson about free shit, but I guess not.

Free things often end up costing plenty. You even warned yourself.

Let's see some pics of the future money grabbing time waster!

Or at least make and model so we can find an example of what we're talking about....

If I have to spend near a grand I will part it out as the powerhead is fresh and the foot is resealed with a new water pump impeller. Stainless prop. Rebuilt carbies. Known good ignition system. I think with a solid Saturday's work fettling some things he forgot to add in the proper order I have a running engine for the cost of some reed cage gaskets and some vacuum tubing. If the transom is solid I will fix the floors, if not; hulls are CHEAP. The trailer needs a pair of tires and rewired. New bunks and a pair of guide poles. A battery and a Teleflex, check the wiring and I'm (hopefully) on the water for cheap.
It ought to haul ass if I can keep the back end out of the drink coming out of the hole.

It is ugly as Hillary's butt right now; let me get it home and at least bleach it a bit.

Whale tail Plus it makes it more stable at speed. The only negative is loss of 2-3 mph on top end.

It has a fin of some sort on it now. I have yet to see the thing in person so stay tuned. Saturday might be a GOOD day.

I rebuilt a V4 Evinrude 135 back in the 80s. I ended up having to buy a new block for it, and parts alone were about a grand even way back then.
But......I'll tell you something....compared to a V8 motor there must be 3 times the amount of pieces in one of them, and 3 times the amount of nuts and bolts.

False start. Me and the Mrs trekked out to the wilds this morning armed with tools, a jack, fix a flat and portable air. Turns out the boat is 17' 6" and the 140 is actually a 115 with replacement cowling. It also seems that at some point during its 11 year stay at friend's house both brand new tires on the trailer mysteriously developed perfect Barlow pocket knife sized slices in the sidewalls. Rims are in the truck; now off to the tire store Monday.

Damn trailer tires are expensive. not just ordinary car/truck tires......way more plys, and to be legal you need the proper ones. Check on CL before you blow a bundle.
