Default Watch battery question:

Where to **** do you get watch batteries (Energizer 377 or equivalent) that still have charge in them? We ordered a package of 5 Duracells from Amazon, supposed to be 1.55 volts, all tested 0.5 or less right out of the package. Got two Duracells from Staples, again, both tested 0.5 or less. Got two Energizers from the supermarket today, and guess what? Both tested 0.5 or less.

Any better ideas out there?

FWIW: I tested all of the batteries with a regular battery tester, AND my multi-meter with identical results, so I don't think it is my meter/tester. I also tried them all in the clock with the dead battery, and all were a no-go.

I learned a long time ago to get batteries from a place that sells them fast, thusly having new stuff in stock. I get the few batteries I need from Walmart.

I’ve been using https://www.batteryjunction.com for years and have been happy with them. My only complaint is they stopped listing country of origin. CS said they couldn’t keep accurate track anymore because some manufacturers use multiple factories for the same battery.

I get my watch batteries from US sellers on Ebay, they'll put the expiry year in the listings so you don't get dead batteries.

Why does anybody still wear a watch?

Between my phone and the clocks in my vehicles -- which actually work, unlike 50 years ago -- I'm never without the current time. I have a clock in every room of the house, including the bathroom.

The only times in the last 20 years I have worn a watch was when doing shore excursions on a cruise. Your late coming back, if your on your own and the ship will leave you. When I'm not using the watch I pull the stem out and that stops the watch. The battery in my old Timex is about 15 years old and if I set the time it still works perfectly. I'm not impressed by expensive watches that 35 yo Timex still works well if I use it.

I agree with you about under normal circumstances a clock of some sort is available. I do not carry a cell phone, but our vechicle and just about every electronic/electric thing has a clock.

I wear a watch damn near every day. I'm wearing a watch right now. It's a habit.

My watch is rechargeable. My phone has a clock, and I can always say "Alexa, what time is it?"

Here is where I get my batteries. About every 4 years. I have done that about 4 times. https://www.amazon.com/CASIO-FT-500W...%2C487&sr=8-12

My daily beaters are solar (Casio Tough Solars and Ecodrives), I don't wear any of the mechanicals regularly enough to keep them going so they have to get wound up and set for occasions I want to wear them (those that have winding anyway), I got tired of the battery changing so have been selling off the battery watches, mostly skagens.

Actually, I've heard people argue both ways with no clear answer- does pulling the crown on a battery quartz stop battery drain? Or is it still ticking and using up battery and the hands are simply disconnected?

I always push to simplify my life. It's just a natural instinct to me. Putting a watch on and taking it off every day is just one more unnecessary thing for me to do. A half-century ago there weren't accurate clocks everywhere.

I chopped my (long) hair off in 1997 because I got tired of shampooing it every day, dealing with wind, "helmet hair," hair dryers, yadda yadda. I also cut my beard down to stubble.

I wasn't sure if I'd ever get laid again, but women did not care either way; some preferred it short. So I've never had to grow it back.

Aside from my teeth, my daily head maintenance for the past 26 years consists of running a washcloth and soap over it, and then drying it with a towel. I no longer need to have shampoo, brushes, hair dryers, or combs around. I cut my hair down every two weeks, takes 30 minutes including clean-up.

In the past year I've let my facial stubble grow back into a short beard. Maintenance is the same either way.

Dicking around with a watch every day? Eh, no thanks. There is no upside for me.

Yes, I noticed that he missed what you actually wrote. I had to double-check to make sure I had it right.

I was going to point it out, but you just did.

She doesn't want to pay $15 to replace a battery that she can replace in less than a minute, but we can't find a battery to buy that still has charge in it.

I guess we'll try batteryjunction suggested above next.

Thanks!

The Kiosks at the malls are a great place to have them replaced.

The Energizer batteries we bought today had an expiration date of 2027, so that plan didn't work.
