Default Larry's Farm House Build Thread

Finally getting started in earnest.
Bought the property 14 months ago. Spent a lot of time and a lot of money clearing and grading and forest mulching and brush cutting.
Built a barn and started some fencing while we designed the floorplan and then applied for a building permit.

I can say this with certainty...it will be a long and expensive road to travel.
Material costs are through the roof and every subcontractor I know is covered up busy.

Dug the footers last Friday, inspected Monday and poured them out yesterday. Block is ordered and should be on site tomorrow or Monday. Block layers are
due Tuesday.

Footers are 12" x 24" with three #5 rebars and a vertical #5 bar with hook every 32". Chairs are Hercules 3-rod structural. Total pour was 45 yards of concrete.

Slab on grade beam?
Pour in 2 stages?
No moisture barrier?
No indoor plumbing?
Where are the wetbacks? Where did you find white guys willing to do manual labor?
I advise you to read Matthew 7:24-26. You're going to hell.

This is how they did mine. One pour, 130 yds.

Looks like easy digging nice to see some proper workmanship for a change. I am glad all of mine were done before the prices went crazy and quality went to hell. I saw a man at the lumber store trying to find some good boards while a snot nosed kid telling him he couldn't dig the pile. Laughed my ass off when the old guy told the kid to **** off.

Where are the wetbacks? Where did you find white guys willing to do manual labor? I'm using as many country boys (men) that I can. I anticipate the only brown or black workers on my build will be insulation and sheetrock.
The youngest man on the concrete crew is 40 and the oldest man is 70.
My land clearing and site work guy is 40 something and his two operators and drivers are in their 60's.

I advise you to read Matthew 7:24-26. You're going to hell. Yes sand but in virgin soil and harder than expected. And the reason the footers are 12 x 24 with 3 bars.
And if I go to hell it won't be because of the footers

Yours looks good.

Serious question, why do the stem wall and slab vs. single pour?

We didn't have any black people working on our house. There are only 119 in the whole county and I don't think any of them work.

It is because of the grade/elevation change. The front will be 4 courses of block and the rear 6 courses. It is a bit "hilly" in my part of NW FL.
And architecturally we want the house to be a little off grade.

Looks to be 1/8” off. Better have a PE look at it before going any farther.

Gonna post the plans or let us guess?

The masons were setting batter boards and pulling lines and squaring up. I heard them call out the numbers and it was about an 1/8th off. I was ok with it but he wasn't.
About LoL'd out loud when one guy yelled "about one eighth off"
