Default UPDATE: Anybody do any long distant driving 750-1500 miles Lately?

UPDATE: post #27 (long- no cliffs)

I need to make a quick turnaround trip to Wichita, KS later this week.
Driving ~760 miles each way.
Going to drive in, pick up a sickly kid (non-covid)with a car-load of stuff, turnaround, and head back over two days continuous.
About 22 hours total drive time.
What are the Interstate amenities like?
Particularly Iowa, Mo, and KS?
Gas stations shouldn't be a problem (24 hr CC access), but what about food
and rest rooms?
TIA

This is OT. You should be asking about carrying a gun in each state you will pass through, what kind of guns should you take, how much ammo is needed, can you open carry, etc.

Your drive time is low for an average overall. Have to figure in every stop, food breaks and gas up.
I average 60 mph on a good trip of 650 miles, bad trip 50 mph. You have a 24 hr minimum trip unless haul ass and only stop for gas.
Food stops suck up most non driving time, I always take a cooler of food and drinks. Make it what the kiddo wants so makes trip more enjoyable for them and you.
Throw a roll of TP in the car... Just saying if amenities are closed or late at night beats nothing.

You could pull it off, but the kiddo isn't going to be happy. Maybe a few doses of Benadryl.

The lack of Emergency Pull-Off areas is what would concern me...

In Missouri you can go inside most restaurants now. At least in my area. I think you'll have better luck with stuff being available if you take I-44 versus I-70.

I can tell you all about NY to FL as of late but no idea on the interior states.

Hope the trip goes well

I haven't been on any of the interstates of IA as of late, but I can tell you that gas stations here in the second biggest city have no regulations regarding entry/exit or food purchasing as far as I know.

Most restaurants are doing curb side. Fast food have largely kept the drive through open and running.

I went to Ames Iowa to see all the National Championship trophies they won in football. They looked at me like a cow looking at a new gate.

Looked at flights home. Holy shit! Thinking about driving the Cali to CO route, but have same questions. I'm guessing that the truck stops are still open, which is a good place for gas, but what else is going on except all the popo now waiting on the side to pull me over?

I plan on taking 35 S all the way down. Should be on 70 for a
short drive from KC to Topeka. Don't see I44 in that region

I'll be passing thru CR in the morning Saturday.
Should make it to Des Moines before I need gas.
Hope the restaurants are open(drive-thru will be fine),as well as the rest rooms.
Will have hand sanitizer and tissue paper just in case.
Return trip is what bothers me the most. Evening/night/early morning driving.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I-44 is one of two ways to go across Missouri east-west quickly. I-70 is the northern route, I-44 is the southern route. STL-KC or STL-Joplin, that's your choice. The KC and STL areas are still on enhanced lock down, but everywhere else, not so much.

Edit: I just now saw you are in WI so yeah I-44 probably not great.

Well, on June 30, we will drive to Watkins Glen. On July 2, we will head to Danville VA to VIR. On July 6th, we will head back home. So, about 1050 miles in the truck, and 200-300 track miles on the vette.

I’m hoping that at least gas station rest rooms are open. We will take TP and shit by the gas pump if not.

I'd tell you to give me a call, and when you're going through Scranton, I'll buy you lunch. Might not be any place to sit and eat though.

I’m headed straight up 15. Scranton would be a detour. You could come to WG and I’d give you a ride. Plus, I’d put in a good word for you. There are a few of my psycho instructor buddies that would take you out as well.
