CLEVELAND (AP) _ Like many die-hard Cubs fans, Bill Murray has finally been rewarded for his allegiance to Chicago’s lovable losers with the team’s first World Series title since 1908.

The Chicago native has served as a sort of team mascot, following the Cubs though their playoff run. The actor threw his arm in the air as the Cubs notched the final out in the 10th inning to beat Cleveland 8-7 in Wednesday’s deciding Game 7.

He later celebrated by swigging champagne with players in the Cubs’ clubhouse and telling reporters trying to interview him to “relax a bit” before dousing the group with bubbly.

Murray tells ESPN that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel will give the city’s school kids the rest of the week off “if he’s as good a mayor as he wants to be.

OK, I couldn't take it. During the rain delay my wife said "Should we go to bed so they can win?" I said "Hmmm, sure." And it worked! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! HOLY COW! (and just a tiny bit hungover...)

WOW!!! Even though I'm a loyal Dodger fan, I was really rooting for the Cubbies. No axe to grind with Cleveland...they're a great team. But after 108 years, I think the Cubs were overdue. Kind of eerie when you put it all in perspective: The last time the Cubs won the World Series, we hadn't fought either World War yet, plane flight was a new thing, Henry Ford has just released his Model T, Teddy Roosevelt was President, life expectancy in this country was almost half of what it is now.

It was also in the middle of the "Deadball Era", so the game was much different.

I had a long conversation with my neighbor the other day. He pitches for the Cubs minor league team. A lot of ramifications for those players depending on whether or not the Cubs won it all. Needless to say, this is a good thing for them.

Congrats to the Cubs!

And I'll just say this one time and be done. To all the people who snidely told me they couldn't do it, who just liked to poke and prod Cubs fans over this, fans who are the most dedicated and harmless fans out there, who only want to Make America Great Again with a good baseball team and a non-criminal president...

**** YOU! YOU = BTFO!

Yeah...think about it...radio was still experimental at the time. TV wasn't even a thought. There was no night baseball...all games were played in the afternoon and there were no PA systems. Announcements were made using a megaphone. If you wanted to know how the team did, you went to the game or you read it in the newspaper. Players uniforms were made of wool. Can you imagine playing in the middle of summer in wool? Holy crap!!!

If you're ever interested in reading a great book about Baseball at the turn of the last century, I highly recommend "The Old Ball Game" by Frank DeFord.

It was an amazing series. I am so happy that the Cubs won.

Both teams had tremendous players ... the infielders really impressed me with their skills.

The final game was so stressful, yet a great game. I was drained by the time it was over.

Congratulations CUBs!!!!!

The Cubs won. Amazing. They hadn't won the WS since 1908 and were down 3-1. The seventh game went extra innings and had a rain delay. It's like the Cubs raised the difficulty level to 11.

That game was insane. While the Cubs finally bringing it home was fun, I think the way this series played out could bring some life back to baseball.

It was truly amazing to watch.

Harry Caray makes the call from beyond the grave, and sells some beer while he's at it.

Through a little audio editing magic and help from Harry Caray’s family estate, Budweiser has released a digital ad with the great announcer calling the final outs of the Cubs’ World Series win.

Here it is:

Huge crowds jamming downtown for Cubs World Series rally

Cubs fans were streaming downtown for the team’s World Series parade and rally Friday morning as the team was taking its celebratory photo on the grass at Wrigley Field.

The team is expected to board a bus shortly and make its way through the North Side on their way downtown for the huge rally in Grant Park. Crowds began jamming trains and buses and gathering around Grant Park well before dawn.

Kudos to AB for the commercial.

While, IMO, it falls a tad short of Guiness's Empty Chair, it's still pretty damn good.

Yeah, a friend emailed me that video this morning and then apparently I chopped up some onions...

The Chicago River turned Cubbie blue Friday morning, as the city braced for a parade 108 years in the making.

The city estimates about 5 million people will attend the World Series celebration, which would mean nearly twice the city's population plans to attend.

5 million

And not a toilet in sight.
