Default I need some questions answered.

Hey everybody, this might be long so hang in there with me. My grandfather had a 72 Corvette with a 350 engine, 4 speed manual, and orange with a custom paint job. This car is no longer in my family anymore. It was not sold or anything like that, sadly it was stolen. I'd like to recreate this car but I have a few questions. First, when exactly did the emissions junk in the 70's take effect in corvettes? I know 70 and 71 were ok (I'm pretty certain) but was 72 unaffected as well? If not, I'll plan to restore a 72, if it was affected then I need another question answered for me. Is the loss of power really an overrated issue? Does it make that much of a difference? If it doesn't I will simply go with the 72 and be happy with it. I have enclosed a picture of the beautiful vette for you guys to look at. All suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Emissions hit HARD in 1975. 70-72 should be good to go.

The chrome bumper models are becoming hard to find at a reasonable price, they're getting up in the 30K+ for a decent one. Decent rubber bumper models can be had in the low teens. Good luck with the project.

Compression ratio's dropped after 1970 causing a drop in power.EGR systems came aboard in '73 and in '75 cat. convertors finally ushered out all the fun.

Is there any way to stumble on a chrome bumper model that needs restoring? I'm willing to go that far. Or could a simple replica suffice, I assume you could modify the front.

How hard to find would an original 72 corvette with a chrome bumper that needs restoring be? Is the only way luck? I can work towards the 30k. But over time they'll gain value so... Hard decision. I may just have to get a later year model of the c3 and change the front and rear to match.

Oh they're out there, just have to look for them. Start researching the interwebs, try googling "1972 Corvette for sale". And those that have a junker, they know what they're worth.

Just googled, got 18 google pages, hundreds of sites to read. Happy reading.
