Doing the U Joints, Using Spicer
Finally found the grind clunking/grinding noise. Right rear U joints are seeping grease and I can move the half shaft with my hand with wheel and driveshaft in park.. It just sucks.
So, I ordered my u joints, will tackle it when the weather is at least 80 plus and 100% humidity.. lol And I replaced the upper end link bushing for the rear sway bar too. It needs the poly ones, which I will do later as the OEM suck. Drive shaft had no play in it, and I remember doing all of them at same time. |

I recently changed u-joints in my 2500HD, spicer non-greasable. I rented the big c-clamp tool from advance, and it made the job way easier than dicking around with a press like last time.

Oh, and I am doing the shocks while I am in there as left rear is leaking pretty bad. HAL shocks. Old, probably 12 to 13 years.
Bilstein 574044 and 584026? 93 with ZO7 springs |

Update
Update. After using better tools, crow bar, it is not the half shafts. It is the driveshaft. Here is a video. Hope it shows it, be patient, but some parts do show the yoke moving before the driveshaft.

Update.. U Joints and Half Shafts are all done. End links are done too.... Still clunking at around 2000 rpm 4th gear, 50 mph +- 5 mph.
Its as if the engine is slapping the driveline.. Driveline in 2nd or 3rd gear is hard to simulate same light load. So, I cant get the noise. One thing I do know is the left rear shock is blown. Oil all over driveway after pulling in. Also, car has normal slip when you have foot on brake and put it into gear, forward or reverse. The driveshaft moves, but no clunking etc. What else is there that can make a clunking slapping noise that isnt half shafts, or driveshafts, end links in this scenario. With 373 gears, I keep it in drive till I hit over 50 mph now. Its that irritating at the mph I discussed. |

I checked, removed mounts about 4 months ago. They were in very good shape.

How much play is in transmission?. My cam is kinda lopey, at 230s in/240s ex at .050. Even though its 2000sh rpm whem I hear it.
I tried to make it happen in 3rd. But with 373 gears its hard to make car "float" to make simulate as easy as 4th gear |

From this post I assume you still have a rattle at light throttle in top gear. I also assume this was not a problem until quite recently... what was your last "upgrade"? I would look at that specific mod next.

Last upgrade was a new balancer. I guess I can put the old one back on from 2001... Its a March underdrive system.

Update.
Grinding noise while accelerating is gone.
Clunking at very very light throttle is still there at about 50mph plus or minus a few mph. All U Joints, Spicer Bilstein ZO7 shocks front and rear for the 93 ZO7 car. End Links new. Batwing Poly ( Unless they go bad, it was done about 40k miles ago?) Camber and dog bones have urethane too. Bearings are SKF, and they have no play. I even torqued them to 200 ft/lbs again to verify they are okay since install. New brake pads. I am at a loss. What can happen to the D44 internally? Has anyone ever had anything break in there. I am only pushing 500 flywheel HP with a 4L60, so its not getting hit hard? Unless I have something hitting the body, as I am lowered? No idea.. Might need a gopro and let it run it different areas. |
