I'm not familiar with pontoons but a Pavati is a good alternative

At this point, I'm leaning towards no, but I will pay for storage, insurance, and SeaTow if he absolutely must buy it.

we're looking at a Barletta Tritoon 25' with a 200 Merc 4stroke (pictured below, same layout). It's a decent price with the trailer. Comes with a decent stereo, Garmin GPS/Fish Finder/Depth Sounder, but no HF radio. That's an easy install, but I'd rather have the factory do it. We have a test drive scheduled for Saturday and I'll see how we like it then. Regardless of what I choose to do, I think the old man is going to buy it anyway.

Any of y'all have experience with these boats? I've done plenty of time on the water with regular pontoons. The tri's are supposed to be a much better ride and better handling.

I have a childhood buddy who also retired a couple years ago up in NH on the lake. He bought something darn near identical to that and powerful enough to ski behind.

Just looked , its a Sylvan

I'm trying to talk my dad into waiting until mid to late may to see if he really wants to buy this boat. I was talking to him last night at dinner and he started to get wishy-washy about it (like he does with things) then started with the "well, you'll be able to use it. I thought you might like it."

Nope. If you're not sure you want something, don't say you're buying it for somebody else so you can justify taking on the trouble and the expense and bring them into the mix so you can bitch and complain when things don't go as you planned.

I'm not going to stop him from buying this thing, but I'm definitely not encouraging him, either. It's nice, but not the right time and there is so much else that needs to be done, first (like finish his guest bathroom remodel that I didn't know he never hired the contractors to finish).

Unfortunately he has an old worn out motor home and wants to rebuild/repurpose it. the family has been trying to get rid of his junk yard for years and absolutely will not help or encourage him to polish turds no matter how many tens of dollars they would be worth after wasting time and money on them
