Default Apple’s high-tiered MacBook Pro

now costs $6,700.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/11/1...shows-fox-news

4TB of storage, an Intel Core i9 processor, and 32GB of RAM sure don’t come cheap

Apple has updated its 13-inch and 15-inch Touch Bar MacBook Pros today with Intel’s latest eighth-generation chips. It’s also offering up to 32GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD storage — if you’re willing to pay for it. While the base models of Apple’s laptops still cost the same (starting at $1,799 for the 13-inch model or $2,399 for the 15-inch model), the updated MacBook Pro now tops out at a whopping $6,699 for the top configuration. That’s $2,400 more than the best 2017 MacBook Pro you could buy.

Both the 2017 and 2018 models have the same starting prices: $2,799 for the “high-end” version of the 15-inch computer, with a faster processor, better GPU, and twice the SSD storage as the $2,399 “base” 15-inch model. Like last year, Apple offers a $300 upgrade to an even better Intel processor — here from a 2.6GHz Core i7 chip to a 2.9GHz Core i9 — and storage upgrades to 1TB (an extra $400) or 2TB (an extra $1,200) for the same $4,299 price as last year’s specced-out machine.

The difference is that Apple is also offering two new options for 2018. You can pay an extra $400 for 32GB of RAM or an extra $3,200 for 4TB of storage. Together, those push the price up to that $6,699 figure. (And while the SSD pricing is almost ludicrously high, the $400 for 32GB of RAM is almost reasonable, at least by Apple pricing standards.)

That $6,699 price tag is shared by another computer in Apple’s lineup: the top configuration of the aging Mac Pro. There, your money will get you a 2.7GHz 12-core processor, 64GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

I priced out a replacement MacBook Pro and came to $3,899. My current MBP is from 2014 and still working great, although I'm considering getting a new one.

This reminds me, my wife needs a new laptop. I'm thinking something more in the $600 range.

A few weeks ago, I bought my wife a MacBook Air, new, for $799. A week after it arrived, Best Buy had the same unit for $650, for a day.

Mine has double the ram, a Xeon processor, same storage (4TB) and was $8k.

Apple hasn't really put a huge premium on that model like they have before...EXCEPT it's only 15" display. My display and video card dwarfs that thing.

Sure, but can you tuck it in your murse and trot off to Starbux for a session of social media?

Yeah, I had the same thing happen last fall. I bought the MacBook Pro 15 with the better video shit and 512GB storage and Best Buy threw it on sale for $200 less a week later.

She needs a Windows computer, she does a lot of work stuff from home and it's all Windows based. Yeah, I know about boot camp and all that. I got her this one today, it should be fine.

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Performanc...1419745&sr=8-4

I have an "old" Asus that I could give her but I got it back when Win 8 came out for testing software on so it's not very new. Haven't booted it up in probably two years actually. Wasn't that great of one to begin with, and I don't want to do this whole ordeal over again in a couple years.

Edit: Asus, not Acer. Actually had to look at it, was covered with magazines and stuff.

I opted for a manly backpack. Only thing I could find that could hold a 17.3" screen, and 2 extra batteries. I like the backpack way better than the old case I had.

32G storage for $400

4TB of storage for $3200 no thanks.

I have my hard drive sync'd to the cloud so as long as I have a hotspot, I have everything I need.

My MBP is two years old and will be replacing it next year with whatever is the latest/greatest model they offer at that time.

My wife’s MacBookPro is from late 2011. I’s been having some issues lately, and the guy who repaired it last time, last week, said they just had to run a disc drive repair program, and it’s ok. Well, it has had a minor version of the same problem again. I priced the new ones, and they’re around $2400. Can’t afford it. She just uses it to surf the web and buy stuff online anyway. Looked at a new Acer Swing15 Chromebook, and it is $500. Does what she needs. I may go that route for replacement...

$500 seems high. You should be able to get her a web surfer for 200-300.

She wants a 15” display. The Asus Spin 15 is the best one out there.

I’ve had great luck with Asus, however I believe Acer makes the spin and I highly suggest you avoid acer at all costs.

I've had horrible experience with Asus laptops, but great experience with Asus wireless routers.

Acer monitors are great, but their laptops are junk.
