bak NASCAR

Does anyone on here think that one pushrod being to light would significantly increase the performance on an 800 HP engine.? The penalty for Gibbs Racing and Matt Kenseth is way to severe for that infraction. No wonder NASCAR is losing fans and interest.Another example of the ivory tower believing they are omnipotent and all knowing driving a good thing into the ground.

But seems like an over reaction when it hurt the performance of the engine, not helped it.

Not in the spirit of the rules, nor the intent.

yeah, way to attract the NFL crowd, turn the whole thing into a rulebook mess, with more lawyers involved than guys who know how to turn a wrench.

"During NASCAR's routine post-race tear down of Matt Kenseth's race-winning car and engine from Kansas Speedway, one of our engine connecting rods weighed in approximately three grams under the legal minimum weight of 525 grams. None of the other seven connecting rods were found to be under the minimum weight. We take full responsibility for this issue with the engine used by the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team this past Sunday in Kansas -- JGR is not involved in the process of selecting parts or assembling the Cup Series engines. It was a simple oversight on TRD's part and there was no intent to deceive, or to gain any type of competitive advantage. Toyota is a company that was built on integrity, and that remains one of the guiding principles of the company. The goal of TRD has always been -- and will continue to be -- to build high-performance engines that are reliable, durable and powerful, and within the guidelines established by NASCAR."
It means who ever assembled it, did not do their job when balancing.

If anything it hurt the performance of the engine.

when you are down to weighing the connecting rods, you have lost the average fan. draw a box the car/engine/whatever has to fit into, and have a min/max weight for large stuff. after that, let teams figure it out. innovation? none. just follow the rule book, build the car, sell ad space, and teach your driver how not to sound like a redneck. profit.

They probably balanced the engine by weighing the piston/rod assemblies but did not weigh the parts separately.

Yeah they probably did, but still surprising.

Any serious engine builder would weigh and balance each piston, each wrist pin, and each connecting rod separately.

Kinda and ABC connect the dots part of putting a race engine together.

Makes me wonder how or if this guy will keep his job...

Because the con rods were too light ? I bet half the cars out there are guilty of that.
