is Stand-up comedy that much funnier in person?

Yeah, because you came expecting to laugh, so you do. It's like any "comedy club"--you're in a funny mood, there are 'comedians' on stage, you want to have a good time, etc. Not so much, though, when you're sitting on the couch at home expecting to be entertained, where you get very critical and maybe cynical. Plus, you paid money to get entertained, so your standards may be lowered so as to not be disappointed. Does that take the humor out of it for you?

The best part of live comedy is the comedian's involvement with the crowd, including you and me. My wife and I are regulars at our club and sit in the front row. We get picked on all the time.

It makes the show.

Some of it is and it also helps if you have had one too many or if there is someone in the audience that has a funny laugh or just adds comments that makes it funny. I always have a good time when I have been out to a comedy show.

Dave Atell was way worse I'm person, guess they couldn't edit out all the fluff between the few laughs...one of the few shows I've ever walked out on.

I went to a comedy show in the Ontario Mills Mall in Ontario California..it was called the 'The Dirty Show' it seemed to me that everyone was trying to be so rank that it was just overkill on the trash talking.

I didnt laugh once and actually left early

I think if have the expectation of being entertained, by going out, paying the price to get in, etc, rather than just switching channels sitting on the couch, your right.
