About the Rush/Slut/Obama Story?



President Obama reached out Friday to the Georgetown University law student dubbed a “slut” by Rush Limbaugh — adding fuel to the fire that threatens to consume the conservative shock jock.

Obama called Sandra Fluke to ask how she was holding up — and to express his support for the former upper West Sider, who drew Limbaugh’s attack for her public support of increased coverage for contraception.

“He encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women,” Fluke told MSNBC minutes after receiving the call.

“And what was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud,” she said. “And that meant a lot because Rush Limbaugh questioned whether or not my family would be proud of me.”

Fluke, a Washington resident, said the call — which the White House confirmed — bolstered her spirits.

“[Obama] did express his concern for me,” she said, “and wanted to make sure that I was okay, which I am. I’m okay.”

Fluke entered the right wing radio host’s crosshairs when she testified in front of Congressional Democrats about her experience of being a student at a religiously-affiliated school whose insurance did not provide contraception coverage.

She said birth control could cost up to $3,000 a year.

“What does it say about the college co-ed Sandra Fluke, who goes before a Congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex?” Limbaugh raged Wednesday.

“It makes her a slut, right?,” he ridiculed. “It makes her a prostitute.”

His comments triggered an immediate backlash, but Limbaugh only doubled down on his angry stance Thursday.

“If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it,” he said. “We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

The President’s call, beyond lifting Fluke’s spirits, appeared to serve a political purpose, temporarily making the polarizing Limbaugh the face of the conservative opposition to his contraceptive coverage edict.

Additionally, several Democratic lawmakers — including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) — immediately put out fund-raising appeals that cited Limbaugh’s comments.

Several sponsors have pulled advertising from the syndicated show and even some politicians who share most of Limbaugh’s political beliefs — and usually are afraid to cross him — thought he went too far.

A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said the GOP leader felt the remarks were “inappropriate,” while presidential candidate Rick Santorum dubbed them “absurd.”

Santorum weighed in on the controversy while crisscrossing Ohio, the Super Tuesday prize many observers feel he needs to win if he has any shot of capturing the GOP nomination.

The latest polls have him ahead in the Buckeye State, but that lead is shrinking.

A Quinnipiac survey released Friday has Santorum up on Romney 35% to 31%. A week ago, his lead was 36% to 29%.

Politicos believe the race is growing tighter thanks to the momentum Romney gained from his wins this week in Arizona and Michigan — and the blitz of advertising his forces have dropped on Ohio.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for a Georgetown University law student complaining about the cost of contraceptives.

She said the cost of contraceptives COULD cost up to $3000 per year. The reality is that on average, it’s somewhere between $10 and $100 per month. If you can’t afford that, then you should think twice about having sex. Drama anyone?

Intelligent people don’t listen to Limbaugh. Or Glenn Beck. Or Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller or Bill Press. They read and make up their own minds.

The .gov should stick to what is mandated in the constitution. If they want to add The right to housing, Welfare, Reproductive rights ETC add them to the constitution and then have a specific tax to pay for them

In this case the .gov wants organization to provide BC for everyone. It does not matter your religious convictions. You have to provide it as part of the plan.
