Best Buy is launching a new back-to-school promotion in which it will present a $100 Best Buy gift card with the purchase of a new MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac Pro.

According to Macrumors.com, the promotion is unadvertised and is available in-store to college students, parents buying for them, and college faculty and staff.

The offer is seen as an attempt to capture customers disappointed with Apple's own recent back-to-school offer.

Panasonic Introduces Toughbook Tablet
Panasonic last week unveiled the Panasonic Toughbook tablet. The device debuted at InfoComm.

The product, which runs Android, is geared towards the "mission-critical mobile user."

“Enterprise customers are very interested in the tablet market, but have been frustrated by the lack of appropriate solutions,” Rance Poehler, president of the Panasonic Solutions Company, said.

“The vast majority of tablet devices—regardless of the OS—are engineered for consumers and don’t offer appropriate levels of security and durability or the functionality needed for business use.


Tablet Panel Shipments Surge 28 Percent
Shipments of tablet PC panels jumped 28 percent in May, with increases shown at all size levels, according to numbers released Tuesday by research firm DisplayBank.

DisplayBank put the number of shipments at 6.43 million.

“Looking at the shipments by size, 5.38M 9.7-inch panels have shipped in May 2011 which increased 26% M/M with the continued popularity of iPad that any negative impact of Foxconn plant explosion in last May has not shown until now," Alex Kang, senior analyst at Displaybank, said as part of the release.
