They didn't have the subscription service back at the time this car rolled off the assembly line, to remotely disable things you bought when you bought the car.

The joke I just read is "At least the trunk is big enough to hold all the parts you have to take off the engine to get the head off.

I fixed a VANOS on an E46 330i once...rather do a jig saw puzzle blind.

My latest repair / replace bill:

Well, eight months ago when the engine was out I was too cheap to replace the 9-year old starter and upgrade the 9-year old oil pump.
So, did starter last week, paid tech for 4 hours labor, would have been free when engine was out.
That was a small one, now the oil pump needs replacing, 8+ hours, and I will go with Katech high-capacity $995 and tech wants me to get front cover for $625.

I should have bought a telsa,,,

How many miles on your car and what HP? IIRC you are at high power levels and running E85?

I bet its 2200, and when done, it will need something else. That isnt the super high tech M3 engine. Solid engine, just not to difficult.
My former BIL did the vanos system and head gasket on his own, on a 5 series. Religion was lost.

You got to pay to play. I would love to have a 2024 BMW M-3. If you can afford the 90k price for a new one then you can afford the maintenance after 3 years of ownership. Or go buy a Honda and say wow what a reliable car.

Over 950 HP at crank.
I have flex fuel, but only run e85 for HP for 12% HP gain and safer / lower IATs.

And now, another item on the list (re-tune, oil pump with front cover, upgraded alternator) will be a clutch, only 3K miles on a triple-disc, I will tear this down next week and asking the vendor for a new one, as this clutch should last a lifetime.

At those power levels, stuff is gonna wear out and break. Part of the experience. I've had the same McCleod clutch in my '65 GTO since 1984. Still perfect. But I have a bit less than half your power level, and have driven pretty much like an old man since I grenaded the rear end on this car in 1990. But from 1982-1990, I beat the snot out of it, that's for sure. And had to rebuild the entire driveline/powertrain because of it. You play, you pay.

I learned this with my first high HP car, 2005 CTS-V, if it did not wear out quickly, it broke early.

God knows that's the truth. I was making too much power for the rear suspension in my Grand National. Had bad wheel hop issues. Had the whole thing redone. Different springs, relocated control arms, relocated shock towers, etc... Car launched really well after that. Broke three motor mounts in a month. Strapped the driver's side down with 4" nylon straps with ratchets. Immediately broke the drive shaft. Had a custom drive shaft built. Grenaded the trans. Every time I corrected a weak link, the car simply found another one.

LOl! Wait.....smh lol That's better. I always called the weak link 'the fuse' and preferred the tires to be the fusible link over the other expensive parts that were getting increasingly difficult to find. Good times, though for all of us. Simpler world. 'Merica!
With German cars, the weak link is everything except the suspension, pretty much. They don't like to keep fluids inside the engines and they don't play nice with electricity.

Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go!

Think the first time I heard that statement was about 1958!
