Default What Do You Think Is The Best Survival Weapon?

For those of you with some knowledge, what do you think is the best survival weapon?
Survival meaning natural disasters, lost in the woods, hunting to eat, etc.
Not the zombie apocalypse or a new civil/revolutionary war.

Items like knife, fire starters, etc... are a given.

I kinda thought the .22 bolt action or lever action would be the way to go.
Semi auto needs maintenance, and can be picky about what ammo it shoots.
.22 ammo is small and easy to carry.

I do believe terrain/environment would dictate what weapon would be most applicable.

Remington .12 gauge loaded with slugs in case a bear or other large predator wants to play; at other times, loaded with buckshot.

It is hard to beat a shotgun for versatility from one weapon and might make obtaining survival food a bit easier while the ammo held out.
Those old over and under Savage combo guns had the right idea, some had a .22 over a shotgun barrel.

Knife

And if you want to get specific, the Randall Model 18 would particularly fit the bill...

As far as firearm? In the Lower 48 either a 12ga Shotgun or Lever Action Rifle in .357 Magnum.

Rifle in .357 Magnum would take care of all of your game needs and provide adequate defense from predators, 2 legged or otherwise (in the Lower 48)

Be a student going in, learn from others/mistakes, figure out what you need where you are, and what you will need for minimum 90 days on your own. IE: fresh water, food, fuel, etc. Often times people have bug out locations, that in a real shit hits the fan scenario, are useless, just because of the travel to get to them. I learned quite a bit during the few time we were evacuated from here for fires. Living in earthquake country, most of us here have some degree of knowledge and readiness. Keeping the gas tank over half full, keeping certain things with you in the car, etc. Two things stand out to me now, though. 1. When they are even thinking about evacuating an area, get out early. One time we were awakened at 7:00 am and had about five minutes to clear out. The other time we had hours of notice, and as soon as they said "advisory evacuation" (not mandatory) we left. Beating the rush and traffic are very important. 2. Be prepared for an evacuation when you are not home. This is why I say carry certain thing with you in the car at all times. My dogs always have enough food and water available for about five days if I can't get to them.

My philosophy, try not to put yourself in that position if you can. With today's communications, one should know well in advance if the shit's going to hit the fan, there are exceptions, lightning bolt comes to mind.
