biggrin Saw this in the work parking lot this morning

Beautiful 8 point buck.

The best part is my coworker Steve has been archery hunting after work in the field on the other side of the building.

I told him just to sit in his car with the window down

It's the rut. Saw more dead deer by the roadside last weekend on the way back from vacay than I ever remember. Most were bucks... "vitamin P" makes them crazy; and stoopit.

"Vitamin P"

They have one thing on their mind and it's not traffic safety

Years ago when I lived in southern Ohio out in the woods, I could look out my window about any morning and see deer at the pond.

It would have been so easy to just hunt from my upstairs window..

And stay nice and warm doing it while watching TV.

I never cared much for the meat, so never shot any.. and always just liked seeing them and watching them more.

Mom and Dad had a house out in G'burg, long ago, 2 acres and a bunch of trees Dad planted.....not at first, but when they grew in a few years, many deer started showing up, went on until we sold the house.....

I agree, though I've never eaten one. They just kind of hang out and run around. My folks used to feed them and we would have 10 of them in the yard. They would come right up to the deck. Sometimes they would sneak up on my when I was outside. I remember once turning around to a deer not 10ft away from me. Just chillin. Watching. Scary though. Those things are like mini horses with their big muscles.
New dog has scared them all away however.

Some people tell me that I did not try any that was cooked right so why the meat tasted gamey..

For some reason with deer I prefer to just watch them as they seem so cool to me.

My sister was visiting one time when I lived there and while we were walking through the woods there were 3 or 4 off in the distance on a hill side, I stopped her from walking and pointed at them for her to see.

She asked me if they were real..

I told her no, they were painted on plywood and I put them there.

She was believing me till they took off running she told me..

I told her I had them on a string to make it look like they were running.. she wasn't buying it though...

Confirmation that we have the same sense of humor.
Don't you love it when people believe lies like that? You're laughing on the inside thinking ''That's so absurd. Why would anyone believe that?!" but somehow you keep a straight face.

I can understand why people hunt them. There's a lot of meat on them, but I agree with you. I like to just watch them. They always have little babies running around with them too. How you gonna go shooting them like that? A couple years ago, a deer was hit by a car in front of the house the baby sat next to it crying for days. It was awful to hear.

A friend of mine's dad is a butcher who lives in Tennessee. He butchers deer that come from a local deer hunting outfit. They have land that they keep natural and allow hunters to pay to hunt on. They feed the deer there really good diets, and make sure they are healthy and disease-free. His dad gives my friend some really choice cuts of this venison, he brings it back in a cooler when he visits for the holidays, and we chow down on this excellent stuff. Most of it we cook just beyond rare, slice it really thin, and serve it with various sauces. We also do a version of Vietnamese Pho using raw venison as the meat. You add the meat and some vegetables like bean sprouts and carrots to a really hot broth. The broth cooks the meat right in the bowl, along with the raw vegetables. It's fantastic.
