Default Edumacate me on kidney stones, please...

I started to experience pain in my bladder two days ago. Nothing excruciating, but pretty uncomfortable. The pain comes and goes, usually recurring every 30 minutes or so. I do have to urinate frequently, but it's a small volume. The liquid is its usual color (straw), not orange or red.

This morning at about 4:00 I went to pee and while standing there i began to get clammy and dizzy. I had a soft landing on the floor where I had a long nap. My research says that stones of course form in the kidneys and move to the bladder via the ureter, which is where the pain starts (in the ureter). I had no pain until it started in my bladder.

Any ideas?

I would think some sort of bladder infection. My stone hurt like hell while traveling to the bladder. After that I felt it when I pissed it out, but it was just uncomfortable, nowhere near the pain. And it was a jagged mofo too.

If it's giving you that much grief, you'd better get on down to the doc.

Go to the doctor. Drink lots of water.

Edit: Kidney infections are also very uncomfortable. They usually start off as a UTI and (if left untreated) the infection moves to the kidneys from there, getting progressively more painful. But you won't know for sure without seeing your doctor.

Aren't bladder infections in men extremely rare?

Stones don't usually hurt in the bladder. Infection does.

Depends on the skanks you've been sleeping with lately. You can catch them.

I had very much the same symptoms with my kidney stone. I felt the pain in the ureter, where it got lodged (confirmed by CT scan in the ER). Sometimes people can feel it travel from the kidney down, but I never did.

Drink lots of fluids, but get thee to a doctor ASAP...because even if you aren't in pain right now, when it comes back, it will be excruciating. It comes in waves until the stone makes its way out, one way or another.

The clammy/dizzy/nausea is from your toxins trying to find a way out, as in the path of least resistance. Since it's not coming out very well via bladder/urine (and sitting in there can also cause a kidney or bladder infection), it can also make you vomit.

Best bet is ER for a CT scan to confirm location and size (to see if it's passable or if you need further intervention), then try to capture the stone via those urine screen funnel thingies, and send it off to a lab to analyze it. There are 4 different kinds of stones, sometimes you can avoid certain ones via a diet change or eliminating certain foods.

Good luck!

When I had my stone the symptoms were similar but I was also vomiting. In fact I threw up in the ER waiting area while we were waiting to see a doc. CT scan confirmed it was a stone.

To make a long story short, a week later they ended up having to go in and get it since it lodged and was not moving. Pro tip...this is not a procedure you want to have if avoidable

Get to a doctor ASAP

I have both passed them and had one stuck. The pain always began as a very strong burning pain in the lower back to one side. Hurt like a sob as it moved along, blazing a trail. Once into the bladder it didn't hurt there. The path hurt like hell. The last time it was 6mm and stuck in the ureter on the right side. Had the option of lithotripsy (laser break up) or invasive removal. Let them go in. I did the laser and it took nine days before the last pieces went out. Nine days of Percocets and hell.

Get to a urologist asap. If it is stuck somewhere the infection will follow. Best of luck.

I've passed thirteen and counting. They have ranged from grain of sand to 8.2mm. Now that one was a pure bitch to piss out.
The pain can be anything from uncomfortable to get me fkn drugs NOW!
The pain can be anywhere in your midsection and can cause anything from puking to passing out.
Get your ass to the doc!

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Cipro is high-potent stuff. But it's better than a hot wire up the piss-pipe.

A friend of mine had one that was the size of a golf ball. He didn't know it was there until it gave him problems. It was so big, they had to remove it surgically.

If you have hard water (even with a water softener) I would advise either getting a reverse osmosis water filter or buying water. We have a place that sells it for 25 cents a gallon, bring your own jugs.

Since we have switched over, I quit having kidney stones.
