Default Thanks Cybercowboy...

After all the posts about cooking on a Primo XL I decided years ago that I needed one. I finally have the spot, and one came up for sale on craigslist.

Came out of a $2M home. Owner had it nine years and said they'd used it a dozen times. It was pretty clean so I'm guessing that's accurate. Brought it home Monday...(an ordeal on its own)...steaks last night, smoked chicken tonight.

Nice! It took me nine months to get a used Primo. Those things just disappear before you can close the deal, it seems.

How much did you give ferrit?

They are great to have and nothing else really quite does as well. But I gotta say, the various pellet grills nowadays are really nice too. I'm sure you'll get many years out of the grill itself but their table thing won't last all that long sadly. At least mine didn't. I now have a custom stainless monstrosity that I got in Springfield MO from a specialty store. It's built like a tank. Used the Primo last night to grill some pork chops. The firebox is cracked in several places and held together by wedging wood chunks between it and the main body. 20 years and still on the same metal grates.

$750. Kind of a chance happening that I found it. I had searched weeks ago on my iPad. I was closing tabs when I hit the craigslist search tab and there it was, had been posted a few hours earlier. I made contact, went to look at it the next morning and had to make a decision right then; they said they had a line of people that wanted it if I didn't.

Have you looked into having the firebox replaced? The warranty is supposedly pretty good. As far as the table goes, it's a bit rickety, I figure if I don't move it around much it should be okay. I do plan to clean it up and stain and seal it.

I paid $750 for mine too.

The outer shell had some minor checking and he received a new one for free from Primo.

I kept the replacement shell in the garage and after a few years I built an outdoor kitchen for my Dad. I rounded up all the innards and now our family has two Primo XL grills.

Once ya figure it out (patience) it’s all good for searing, or low and slow

I did have it replaced. Twice. First time was when it was brand new and was cracked from shipping. I should have just kept it, it wasn't a big deal. Then I did get them to replace it about 10 years ago but I had to pay shipping, which was IIRC something like $100. Here's the thing. If you do high-temp cooks you will crack the damn thing. And it's not a big deal. Its job is to just sorta hold the coals away from the outside body of the grill. How it does that is really not all that important. I'll get around to getting a new one someday, it's like #23242 on my priority list right now.

I had mine replaced about 5-6 years ago. It’s still in a box in the barn. The cracked one works just fine.

Looks like there's a new design on the firebox that allows for some thermal expansion. The video is amateur and longer than it needs to be, but he does point out the design change.

Well looks like I'll be getting a new firebox and grate soon, and I sorta need some new cooking grates. I don't even care if they charge me.
