I guess it is up to the old man to say that the lottery is a tax on dreamers and the math challenged. I hope you win, but your money would be better spent on a six pack. Get a little tipsy and dream without paying the lotto tax.

Meh, It's $2.00 that i can spare and the return on investment (although slim chances) would be nice. Plus, I have gone high class and bypassed the 6er. I'm drinking Torched Cherry Bacardi and Coke (the brown liquid kind) tonight

It's similar to the rationale for purchasing life insurance.

With life insurance, the odds of dying early and your family needing that money is pretty small. That said, if your number does come up, and they don't have that money, it might be disastrous for your spouse and children. It's a relatively small amount of money spent to hedge against an unlikely but devastating event.

With the lottery, the odds of winning are infinitesimal. If you do win, though, you're going to have hot and cold running hookers and blow. Thus, it's a relatively small amount of money spent on an unlikely but stupendously awesome event.
