Who remembers those dirty Popeye comics that used to go around in school? They were about 2-3" high and maybe 6" wide, in color.

He had a yooge cock and was banging Olive Oyl is all I recall.

Cycling home from school with my best mate; if the front rider gobbed (spat) on a tree or lamp post, then you had to do the same. Home to his or my house, where we did our homework together on a Thursday, which had to be finished by 5.25 because Thursdays at 5.25 was time for POPEYE!

OK I will try not to mention the great cartoons already mentioned.
When I was a kid TV was just starting to air.
Cartoons
Crusader Rabbit
Tom Terrfic
Ruff and Ready
Newspaper funnys
Bazooka Joe
Beetle Bailey
Andy Cap (more adult humor)
Pogo
Older folks talked about their 40's automobile s having thicker metal which they did.
Homo's were in the closet but everyone called them queer's or queer
(not right)
You stood for the Flag and prayed on Sunday. You did not want to be
called a Commie. You would lose your job and probably end up in jail.
The most modern invention was the Bomb (A) you feared it but was glad
it ended World War 2.
Blues and eventually Rock and Roll music was on the radio (AM) . Some
liked it others wanted folks to be put in jail. They were from the WW2
Big Band era.
The guys that came home from the war had the most grit. They were
young and the only thing they wanted was to get back to civilian life.
And they did. Most did not talk about their battles , they won that was
enough.
Life was good . Everyone thought they would get ahead and that their children would be better off than they were. Most felt opportunity
was around the corner no matter their station in life.
I guess, now, I am a old man.

Tidewater had a local morning kid's show called "Bungles the Clown" whose star also was the "Cool Ghoul" on the late night horror show "Shock Theatre" that featured super tacky, old school horror films. Man, I hadn't thought about that in years.

The radio station was WNOR, with "stacks of wax" for your listening pleasure....

“I asked an elderly man once what it was like to be old and to know the majority of his life was behind him. He told me that he has been the same age his entire life. He said the voice inside of his head had never aged. He has always just been the same boy. His mother's son. He had always wondered when he would grow up and be an old man. He said he watched his body age and his faculties dull but the person he is inside never got tired. Never aged. Never changed.
Our spirits are eternal. Our souls are forever. The next time you encounter an elderly person, look at them and know they are still a child, just as you are still a child and children will always need love, attention and purpose."

Frank you got me to thinking.
You West coasters will know what I am talking about.
In the early 60's , late at night, when the earth was at the right axis.
with a westerly wind and a damn good radio for its time...
I could pick up Wolfman Jack (before he became famous). Crazy
Wolfman Jack. Great entertainment, great music.

Into the early '70's, too. He broadcasted on Los Angleles XPRS 1090, the "Ten-Ninety Express'' on 50,000 watt transmitters located across the boarder in Mexico. After a certain hour, the station would switch to the flame-thrower transmitters, which used a beam antenna pointed north/south. I could pick it up in Oakland, CA, and a friend of mine who I didn't know at the time used to listen to him up in Idaho. I heard my first real R&B on his "Soul Patrol". This was 50+ years ago.
There was even a song in the '80's, IIRC, about 'Mexican Radio', which references this. We could also get 64KFI out of LA 400 miles away late at night and KCBS out of San Francisco when we were traveling east of Fallon, Nevada. The first time I heard the Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc. was all on AM radio back in the day. And really old guys remember what the CD diamond on the radio dial in two places was for.
