Default Finally started working on the Triple again

Last weekend a fellow Kawasaki Triple enthusiast drove up to have me do some machine work to his cylinder heads. Part of the deal was he would check out the wiring to make sure I had everything hooked up correctly. Electrical work isn't my strong point and if I had something wired wrong, I could easily smoke $1000 or more of extremely hard to find electrical ignition components.

My only mistake was having the turn signal wires crossed ( it would have blinked right front and left rear )

Since that was all verified, it was time to start the final assembly.
I ran the throttle cables . I had to run them on the opposite side of the frame since the bars I have on it are shorter.

Ran the oil pump line and installed the tank

The 2nd last pic is a restoration done by Brian H ( mine won't quite that pretty )

In the 80s I had a room mate who had two 750 triples. One was a factory drag bike, not street legal with a 140 hp engine. He used to put the drag bike engine in the street bike for the weekend now and then and go riding with his friends. The world's fastest chain saw. That's what I used to call it.

His friends would always whine and say "I'm not spending all day ridin' behind that Jap oil-burnin POS. He would say "Then get in front of me."

Back in the 80's, a friend Wally rode a worked 750 triple. He was 5'3" and maybe 130 soaking wet but he could ride the tires off pretty much any cycle.

It's a wonder he is still alive

My room mate was over six feet and 240 lbs, and he couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground without laying his chest on the handlebars.

He was a machinist at Hewlett-Packard and to give you an idea how modified the bike was, except for the engine and trans, the bike was not metric anymore. He had rebuilt/redesigned every nut and bolt on the bike including a full custom swing arm he designed.

Sounds like a pretty worked machine.

Radical porting makes the powerband come on like a light switch. If he had a honest 140HP, that was pretty close to max HP back in the day.

One of the triple guys offers reed valves. Now you can have the radical porting and still get some low end to make able to be ridden on the street.

Cool thread.

Edit: I'm not a bike guy, but reading stuff like this...hmm.

Good on you for making some headway. Life always seems to get in the way of personal projects like this. I may have a line on a 750...talk me out of the porcupine heads, DG pipes, FMF porting and Enzo suspension; PLEASE. I don't want to die now.

140hp sounds like a funeral waiting to happen

Ok on the drag bike but a bit much for early 70s frame technology on the road

I put in an order with Jessbikes

Chain and sprockets
mirrors
carb top boots
tach cable

Scheduled delivery is Saturday. Hopefully I'll have some time to work on my stuff after taking care of the kawsaki triple folks and the cub cadet folks.

Nice work and a sweet bike Jeff! Got a soft spot for those old bikes. Almost never see them out there anymore.

Let me know when the next cruise is and I'll join in.

Yeah man. I might need somebody to get my Suburban and my trailer

I haven't seen a two stroke road bike out for a few years. I know once I bring it out I'll get bombarded with "widow maker" stories.
