I was about 16 hours deep into an instrument rating when I figured out that I was never going to fly for money...ever. Then it hit the skids.
Here's what i'm looking at cost-wise doing the actually flight training at the JAx Navy Flying Club on the base here. Even at an average of 58 flight hours, it comes out about $4-5K cheaper than doing the same training through the college where I work, and yes, I have the cash for this and more saved for when I want to attempt to be like Kobe and get my rotary PPL.

total cost includes flight time, instructor fees, examiner fees, equipment such as headphones, FAA exam prep, test fees, medical exam, monthly club dues of $40/m and yearly $30.00 insurance fees with training done in a Cessna 172 aircraft. Price goes down significantly with smaller planes but I want the training in the cessna.

I can't upload .PDF attchments.

Just out of curiosity ...why rotary versus a fixed wing license.

Is it because you want to be just like Grumpy when you grow up?

You can eat a bag of dicks, but the real answer is I've always been interested in learning to fly rotary....and I want to say, "Get in da Choppa" with authority.

I did my training at the Robins AFB Aero club back in the 90's. Piloting an aircraft is cool stuff, but in the end, there are just other things I would rather do. Either way, I'm still glad I did it, and I am a licensed pilot.

I built bridges for 13 years. You have driven over a few of them.

build yourself an ultra-light, no license required and you get to fly in the fun part of the envelope all the time.

What part is that? The almost falling out of the sky part?

All the fun to be had in flying is in the low to no altitude range. Doing 500 knots or mach 2 at 30K feet is boring. You need to be near the ground to have the true perspective of the speed you're traveling at. 60 knots is exciting at low altitude. .
