Default Drove a 996 Twin Turbo

It's a sort of a "bucket list car" for me. '01 with 111K miles, $35K. Rear-seat delete, and the auto rear spoiler is stuck, common for these cars. Drove a lot like my non-turbo 996 in the low RPMs. When the boost hits, it's a ride. I went from 60 to 100MPH very quickly in third gear. Probably wouldn't phase you guys with the newer Vettes, but this was certainly the most power I've ever driven. Even at it's age and millage, it drove like a new car, no squeaks or rattles.

Now that I've done it, I'm not sure it's worth it to me to give someone my car and $20K+, I could make some small performance improvements to mine for a lot less money.

Porsches are some of the most reliable and best-built cars out there. You can drive that one to 200,000 with no problems. Can you say that about your current car?

This one I can...

And my Infiniti seems to be pretty solid so far.

The turbo cars rock and that is a nice looking one. Question is, would you really use that power ?? My Cayman S is only rated 295 HP but it feels like more. When I look at the options for turbos I think, I should do that. Then later I remember, I have a car that will run 12.80 in the 1/4 mile and tops out at 170 and realize, its fine the way it is.

The low end torque is missing, just like in the non-turbos. I didn't punch it in the low gears, because when the boost hits, you jump very quickly in RPMs, and I didn't want to rev-limit someone else's car. The ride when you nail it in third gear is almost worth the price of admission by itself, even in fourth gear, it pulled hard. But if you're just driving it peacefully, it's not apparent that you're driving a rocket.

Sounds like I need to drive one.
No. Then I'd be wanting one too.

Spending 20K on what is already a fantastic car seems like a waste of money, especially if the mods could potentially grenade an expensive drivetrain.
The best mod would be fresh sticky tires.

If you can't put an extended warrantee on it I would not buy it with those miles.

I wouldn't do anything that invasive, just some mild stuff; although you can't do anything for cheap on these things.

Funny, I was just thinking of getting one of these. But, I agree with this statement. Even the non-turbo P cars can get spendy fast.

I had a both fuel pumps go out in my Cayenne. Ugh..

I would probably get it if it were in the 70,000 mile range. I DO think it's a testament to the cars that so many of them have so many miles.

My '00 996 was the best daily driver sports car that I've ever had.

There's a guy on Rennlist with...

...it's more than that now, It's a '03 996 TT X50. The turbo cars are more bullet proof than the non-turbos.

For those that think it was chopped, here's another shot from several years earlier, same thread (the threads go on for years there...)

I've driven a 6-spd 2001 911 Turbo (silver), and it was great. I'd love to own one someday.

The dealer had an almost identical car with an automatic, and I kick myself for not driving it; I could imagine it being more fun to drive, being easier to keep it in the power range.

That car's value has tripled in the last five years, probably worth $200K+. If you had known that back then...you probably should have stolen it...

That was owned by Jesse James from CF. He was trading it in the next day on the GT3 so he let everyone take it out for a shakedown. The car would come in, switch drivers, and back out.
The restaurant manager came out and told us we weren't welcome there.
He thought JJ was a drug dealer.
After I showed him the row of vettes and vipers and other cars and told him what we were actually doing, he let us back in.

You didn't miss much, the service was so bad that they comped 85% of what we ordered. I locked my keys in my C4, I called AAA and ordered a beer. The dude shows up without a flashlight, can't get in, drives back to the shop a few miles away, comes back and opens the car, and I still hadn't gotten my beer.
F'ng AAA was faster than the bartender.

Ouch! Hopefully that place is no longer in business.
