Around here, if you have cedar shingles...your deductible is super high.

My old insurance company went to 2% of home value for roof damage from wind/hail several years ago.
Changed companies and was surprised to see $1k still available.

Nope. Asphalt. I need to call that insurance company and ask. Perhaps I didn’t pay attention when we purchased the policy 15 years ago. I’m betting it changed and they hid it in the huge packet nobody reads. (State Farm FYI)

I paid $2,000 (deductible) for roof that had to be replaced - damaged by wind . Had it been damaged by a tornado I would have had to pay $6,000. I was ecstatic to have USAA return some money to me after many, many, many years. Total bill over $21,000. I didn't care if the roofing company overcharged or not.

I screwed up and put a new metal roof on my home just weeks before hurricane Zeta blew thru. Coulda got the insurance to pay for it.... The good news is the new roof suffered zero damage from the storm...

In 20 years of living here we have had 2 new roofs due to 2 hail storms 10 year apart. Also new gutters and down spouts.
