Getting surgery in a hospital is a lot like owning a boat.

Your two happiest days are the day you get the surgery to have the problem fixed, and then the day you leave the hospital.

Hoping that day is today for Mrs. Snik. I'm guessing the rehab for that is mostly using the spirometer and other breathing exercises to build back lung strength, and then general getting up and around to regain general strength and endurance. Laying flat on your back for a few days makes anyone weaker, especially when we get older.

Not uncommon to have a small air leak after a lobectomy. Sometimes it will even crackle! I'm sure her medical staff is aware?

When she gets home, she'll find it more comfortable to sleep in a recliner for a couple of days (instead of laying flat in a bed). Also, referred twinges of pain will happen for a while as there are lots of nerves between the ribs (the surgeon will try to avoid them as they lay against the rib, giving room to not hit them).

How's she handling the pain? In my case, I never needed anything stronger than acetaminophen after waking up. Hopefully she'll get there quickly too

They're a freaking leftist town, so why can't you just go down and plead your case? This just sounds incredibly stupid to not provide needed care when that's what they pride themselves upon.

Now, if you're too proud to do so, get over it. If some river crosser gets help, then you should too.
We’ve had some friends drop off some food but the day in day out care is on me. Oddly nobody has ever offered to help or bring food for me. I guess you need THE CANCER for that. Even though having Crohn’s is like having cancer forever. It just kills you slower. To be fair I’ve told no one about my cancer. It has no symptoms so who cares anyway.

I do have to go in for more tests and another biopsy on a few weeks. I’m pretty sure nobody will drive me there or bring me a sandwich.

On the last day or around that time frame, they told me I could not go home until I basically did some serious farting to get all the air and gas out from the surgery.

Could be something like that?
Don’t know. They said it will fix itself.

Yes, her body will absorb any subcutaneous (or pleural) air.

(amazing the things I learned going through it)

Since we’re spread out all over the country though, what *can* we do to help? I have seen this forum pull together before, no reason that can’t be done again.

I can send food from Goldbelly with just an email address (to preserve privacy). Grocery store or restaurant gift cards, too. Would any of this be helpful to you and your family??

I know it’s late and I’ve just spent all day doing Christmas cr@p (dipping Oreos and baking peppermint brownies), so I might be over-tired/way off-base, but just thought I’d throw a few ideas out and see what, if anything, sticks. If nothing else, you have our thoughts and prayers

Thank you for your kind offer. We are OK. Lots of folks bringing by food. I think the biggest challenge is finding someone to watch over her while I’m at the cancer center or doctor. (Today I was at the center for five hours but my son was here).

I had to fix my truck to ensure we have two vehicles. That sucked.

I’m doing all the household chores and working full time. I’m so tired. But that’s why god invented 5 hour energy which should be called “30 minutes of anxiety plus 4.5 hours of headache” but that probably didn’t fit on the label.

You are a good man sir. I'm also caring for a wife recovering from surgery (knee replacement), it's so much easier when you're doing it for someone you really care for.

Best wishes for you and your wife.
