What's a good 9MM defense bullet?
I'm talking about reloading. I have plenty of 115 grain round nose bullets, but want to do some defense loads. I see mostly 124 or 147 grain hollow points. Is 124 better than 147, or vice versa? I want to have both home and carry rounds, so should I be looking at doing different grain bullets for each, or is there a round that's good for both? No way in hell am I paying these ludicrous prices for factory rounds right now.

i use the same as the FBI: Hornady Critical Duty, 135gr.
for reloading, i'd go with 147 gr. hard part will be finding the JHP bullets. |

I have a box of Cor-bon JHP +p that I have been saving for SHTF scenario, and hope I never need them. Sadly, while I need to practice more, I am kind of afraid of using up my target ammo and not being able to get more. Last time I bought pre Wu flu, it was $ .17/rd delivered. I bought some at the early stages for $ .20 and don't even want to think about what it costs now, even if you can find it.

I use whatever is on sale for range fodder, but for defense, I've been using Ranger 147gr JHP.
I use 147gr because it's subsonic and with my suppressor on my Sig, I won't go deaf if I have to shoot indoors. |

another advantage to a heavier bullet, is a little softer recoil, so you can get back on target just a tad faster. if that matters.

I like the idea of a heavier slow round so there's less chance of blowing through and hitting someone behind hypothetical bad guy

good JHP ammo is designed to expand and stop penetrating. they use ballistic gelatin, and the FBI criteria is to stop between 12 and 18 inches after impact. there is a lot of fancy engineering to make a bullet do that. the Hornady Critical Duty has also passed all the FBI barrier penetration tests, shooting thru various common materials and then impacting the gelatin before expanding and stopping. you can look up the tests on the Hornady website. good stuff. |

Another reason to vote Trump. With a Trump win, hopefully the insurrection will stop or BE stopped without citizens having to go all 1776.
