Theater Shows
Last night, Mrs Rickles and I went to a local, very small (150 seat) Theater built in a converted Barn, (after grabbing a tasty meal at this new Vietnamese Restaurant).
The actors and actresses performed the show, 9 to 5 @ Town and Country Players. It was a pretty good show! I did feel like jumping on stage and insulting a few but ...... Question here is, do any of you attend small live theater shows near you? |

The Straz Center in St. Petersburg, FL......saw an absolutely, wonderful live play of Beetlejuice which I expected to be lame, with crappy props and mediocre talent. Wife and daughter dragged me to it kicking and screaming.
WRONG ! We were in the front row and it was mesmerizing and delightful and the actors/singers way over-exceeded expectations. The young girl playing the whacky daughter in the production had just graduated out of high school and nearly carried the whole show by herself with her perfect singing. And as icing on the cake, the actors occasionally bantered with the audience a bit, making it personal... I won't go see Hamilton; I don't care if the tickets are free and you get to sit beside Jennifer Lopez and she gives you a lap dance at intermission.....well, maybe. |

THere's a summer theater group here at Lees-McRae College that's pretty good. That venue seats maybe 300 or so. They've been doing it for over 30 years.

My one sis and her hubby go to plays all the time. I used to meet them beforehand at a bar (before gov't Covid policies caused the bar to go down the tubes) and we'd get pizza or something, and they asked a couple times if I wanted to go to the play, but they knew I was not interested anyway. I can't think of anything more boring than going to a play, and pretending to be a libtard. It's even worse than responding to a Rickles thread. |

Don’t mind exposing myself as a cultured elitist libtard who loves the arts. No pretending.

Working in the shop getting my hands dirty and actually accomplishing something or wasting hours in front of a bunch of people dressing up and pretending?
That's an easy decision. The same goes for TV, movies and most sports. F all that brain-dead shit. |

The last show I saw was Spamalot, on Broadway, in NYC. Great show, very funny, and, at the time, the hot ticket. We rolled up the day of show, inquired about tickets, they laughed, said it was sold out for months. Asked if they'd take our name in case they had cancellations or no shows. They laughed, but agreed.
Guy comes out a few minutes before curtain, looks incredulous, says "we have two tickets for you." Paid, walked in to about 8th or 9th row center orchestra, sat down, and the curtain was pulled a few minutes later. Great show, great story. |

Haven't been to a theater for years but I did just go to see a pipe organ performance.
I was expecting to dig it for 15 mins and get bored; boy was I wrong. She played some classical pieces as well as a few from Hans Zimmer's score from Interstellar. Largest pipe organ in the world with 33,000+ pipes. Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Horrible audio on this clip though...

I will say this about the theater, and classical performing arts.....we should enjoy and support our European heritage, which includes classical music performances, theater productions, and, if it's your thing, opera. Are you going with family and friends to see your local performances of Handel's Messiah during the Christmas season, for example? You should, if for no other reason than to help keep demand for such shows, so future generations can experience what you experienced.
Of course, the theater these days is a crap shoot, so maybe try and choose non woke (or woke, if that blows your skirt up) performances. |

No.
I think it sounds awful. What I would like however is for venue's to combine food/music/comedy as a show, not something on the side. We go to the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, mediocre food, all sounds good, but its OK, but then again they have to server 35 tables at the same time but then they have a concert after. They take your order, get you some drinks, give you about 15-20 minutes of quiet time and then the show starts while you eat. They are the only place around here that does that. |
