Default Good score today at the local LKQ

When I bought my '89 D100 last May it had a power brake booster that was bad. Always had a hissing noise that went away when the pedal was depressed. It also had an off idle hesitation, and when stopped at a light or whatever and creeping forward or when backing up it had a very noticeable skip and salled out a few times. Actual braking was unaffected.
One wouldn't think that a replacement booster for a truck that was produced that many years would be difficult to acquire. Alas, not the case. I tried the usual auto parts stores. Nada. Went to Ebay. Ordered A1 Cardone units from two different vendors. Both were cancelled and refunded the next day. Tried a couple of online parts stores with the same result. Finally found one from Cardin's site for $156. It arrived a few days later. Went out last Sunday to install it and discovered the check valve/filter was incorrect. The replacement had a larger diameter opening in the housing so my stock valve wouldn't fit the new part. I emailed Cardin. They sent a return label so back to square one.
Got a notification a couple of days ago that the local LKQ received a '93 Ram that was hit on the right front corner. Went this afternoon and lo and behold it had the correct booster. I hated the idea of using an almost thirty year old part but there wasn't another viable alternative. Took it off, paid the man $37 and left.
Got home and did the swap. Runs like a freakin' champ! Idle issues are gone, hesitation gone, no heavy skip easing off the brake or reversing.
Since purchasing I have put less than 1500 miles on it. Now it will be a joy to drive!

It's nice when things work out in the end. I would say the more the struggle the greater the reward, but I would be lying.

I hate acronyms.

I have split open a booster and replaced just the diaphragm before. It worked for many many years. Was working when I sold the car.

LKQ Pick Your Part. Yes, salvage yard. You pull what you want. There are always guys there you can pay to do it for you if you'd rather. Parts come with a thirty day warranty and you can get a six month warranty for a small fee.
You can go on their website, enter what car model you are looking for and it will tell you the VIN, section, row, and space it is sitting in. There are pics of each side of the car as well as the interior and usually an underhood shot. You car set up your "garage" as to what cars you may be interested in and they will email you when one hits the yard. Rows are rotated out every couple of months to keep inventory circulating.
In my experience the prices are very reasonable, especially for hard to find stuff on some models. I went back today and got the spare tire carrier that was missing off my truck. Price - $18! Yesterday and today I got the tire carrier; brake booster with check valve/filter; plastic covers for the seat belt buckles; tool tray that goes behind the seat; and a "RAM" emblem off the hood of a Dakota that I am going to use to make a front tag. My total spent was $76 and some change. Plus $3 entry fee each day, so $83 total. The incorrect booster I ordered online was $156.
Year before last I bought a Pathfinder that had front seats lacking in beauteous appearance. I found one there with a neat perfect interior. Bought both front seats and the rear seat for $85. Also scored a set of aluminum 16" SE wheels with brand new tires for $235. Those two purchases really changed the looks of that truck.
I bought an I30 Infiniti a few months ago that was clean except for a tear on the passenger side front bumper. Found one there in the correct color for $30.
Whenever I buy a car to fix up and sell I make a list, go online and plot out which cars to hit. Take a drink, snack, and a pack of cigars and spend a few hours there. Dress appropriate for the weather!
