Talk to me about the blue Ridge Parkway..
The wife and I want to take the Vette and drive the parkway in June, maybe even do Skyline Drive as well. We have a week or so, so no need to hurry. We will go north to South.
Some thoughts and questions: 1. How much distance would be reasonable to cover in a single day? Probably would stop to see some things, but not to hike or anything like that. 2. How far off of the parkway do you need to go for a B&B or motel? 3. I'm thinking maybe a day for Skyline Drive and 2-3 for the Parkway, ending up in Asheville. Sound reasonable? Thanks. |

Jump on Skyline Dr. in Front Royal. Stop at Luray Caverns if you have the time. It's 35 MPH pretty much the whole way. So guestimate your time based on that. Not too sure about BB along the way. There are some decent Mom and Pop restaurants along the trail.

The link provided by Fasflas has a map to download that shows motels, restaurants, etc. 2 1/2 days is ample for the entire trip.

drove part of it years ago on our honeymoon.
tight, twisty, slow, much more mentally draining than an interstate. |

There is a lot to see and you can't possibly get it all in, so sit back and take your time and enjoy what you do see. You can always turn off at the next exit when it's time to leave, so don't worry about the destination, it's the trip that's important.

I definitely agree. I'm just an a-hole when it comes to knowing where we will stay at night. Especially during the crowds of summer.

We drove the full length of both, North to South, and did it in 3 days/2 nights. We stopped at Luray Caverns and enjoyed it. We did a very leisurely pace and had a very good trip. I would love to do it again one day.

Yelp at me when you get to the south end. A Dragon/Cherohola Skyway run is always good for my soul!

Couple years ago the wife and I did about 2/3's of the BRP in the Z06. It was a beautiful drive, but the wife hated it to be honest. Too many curves as far as she was concerned. I however enjoyed the hell out of it!!!

It's an absolutely beautiful drive. There was a rock slide just North of Asheville NC a few days ago. It'll take some time to clear but there's plenty of roads that connect to it so bypassing the trouble spot shouldn't be a problem.
