The best all-around cardio workout is swimming, though. Too bad that involves either sharing a pool with others, paying to have a sufficiently large one put in, or taunting sharks.

I love a good endorphin rush. Of course, it helps to have chocolate sitting on the treadmill for when I am finished my four -five miles.

You can't out train a bad diet. Trust me, nobody is more OCD about what they eat than I am right now. I haven't been in CFOT or VBOT much lately since I've been spending most of my internet time on fitness forums.

"Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym."

I did crush my 5 mile run today in 30:46 (shattering my previous best of 31:10), a blazing 6:09/mile pace.

Amen on the abs comment. It cracks me up people thinking they can do "crunches" and get abs.. lol

I'm 6'6 and 210 pounds.. probably just above 10% body fat. And it's still hard to keep em...

Doesn't matter how many ab exercises you do, nobody will see them if they're hidden by fat. You can't spot reduce fat.

So you're 6'6", filthy rich, and 10% body fat?!!!??!

Damn, now I really hate you.

Very nice... That is moving in my book. I'm training for a half next month and last weekend I did 4.5 in 38 minutes. My problem is slowing myself down for the long haul. I just want to go faster and then I burn myself out on the longer runs before I hit 7 miles.

Masturbation is a great way to get your heart rate up .... of course you'd have to spend about 3 hours a day jerking the gherkin.

The longest I've ever ran is a 10k back on Thanksgiving. I did it in 39:36 (my goal was to be under 40 min), a 6:23/mile pace. That put me in 59th out of 4100-something runners. I've been thinking of trying a half marathon, and I bet I could do it in about 100 minutes. But I'd get bored as hell slogging along at an 8:00/mile pace.

Every now and then I'll run 1 mile at the track, current best is 5:11. I want to break 5:00.

If you can, get a copy of Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit OR Insanity Max Plyo!

The McMillan Running Calculator does a pretty good job showing equivalent times. A 39.36 10k is about a 1:28 1/2 marathon. This assumes equal training and a similar course. So you'd have to get some long runs in. But you'd easily be much, much faster than 1:40.

I can get through the regular P90X plyo with relative ease. A buddy of mine is a personal trainer and he teaches a class that runs through some of the Insanity routines. The Max Plyo one incorporates some pushups in it too, right? I liked that one.

You're going to have to do that workout once (if you got a small) or twice (if you got a large) to work that off. I hope it was worth it.

As I said earlier, you can't out train a poor diet. When's the last time you made your famous fried rice and SPAM casserole?

Thanks for that link, that's awesome. I'd shoot for under 90 minutes for sure. But before I do that, my current goal is to improve my mile time to under 5 minutes.

I ran one in 1:46 at the age of 40, pretty sure you can beat 100 minute.lol The half-marathon is my favorite distance.....not too long, not too much training, great runner's high! Endurance > speed

I always work extra hard when I eat bad....and I've been working extra extra hard lately We actually swapped out P90X Plyo last night for Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit. Both have a few push ups in it but the max has much more.

I've made it ONCE since the last verbal abuse you gave me and that was at the request of my son (who LOVES it).

For what its worth, I now prefer the cardio based routines over the weight training too. Not sure why but I do. I still do the weight training and once I'm into it I really push myself but the motivation to just get started is harder. I suppose its more "fun" now too that I have a few people to workout with instead of alone.

I basically quit weight training after I discovered the joys of SBR, as you call it. I do pushups/situps in front of the TV sometimes, but I let my gym membership lapse because I wasn't using it.

For Utah:

Mix it up, do some trail runs, street runs, on/offroad biking, pool swimming, open water swimming, etc.
