It's a tough subject, and one hard to capture within a certain period of time.

Yamma's self portrait is the only submission so far that comes close to expressing a mood in my opinion.

You may want to broaden the time frame during which the image was taken.

I think this is an excellent subject to do, it is challenging. Not only do you take pictures of a subject, that subject needs to capture an mood, or express a mood you are trying to get across to the masses.

Mood is not just what a person presents. A mood can be created by the lighting of a subject, say dark and dreary to bright and happy. The mood the person who created the art (be it paintings, sculptures, or photograph) is one that sometimes has to be interpreted by the viewer.

Webster defines mood as follows:
Mood - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Definition of MOOD
1
: a conscious state of mind or predominant emotion : feeling; also : the expression of mood especially in art or literature
2
archaic : a fit of anger : rage
3
a : a prevailing attitude : disposition b : a receptive state of mind predisposing to action c : a distinctive atmosphere or context : aura

Each of the photos above do express a mood. Everyone interprets them a little differently.

For example:

Grey Ghost's confederate soldier head stone to me is Mood of sadness, and loss found in history. He did a great job of this by taking a black and white photo to help capture that.

Brett K's smiling man wearing a boobies T-shirt to me conveys a Mood of happiness and laughter. Makes you wonder just how did person got him to smile!?

JimMartley's man getting in the cold pool to me shows a Mood of surprise and shock! The expression on his face says it all!

Allthrottleandsomebottle's dung beattles to me is a Mood of determination and fustration. That dung is bigger than both the beetles trying to move it and they are on opposite sides!

Yamma's Weekend Mood to me conveys one of relaxation and coyness! She does a good job of turning her head just slightly so you can't see her other eye. Her pose is marked by cute, coquettish, or artful playfulness to entice you!

Milton Fox's stain glass window to me expresses a mood of comfort and serenity! The beauty of the stained glass just has a suggestion of utter calm and unruffled repose or quietude.

I think wwomanC6 has it correct. The photo is supposed to stir a mood in the person viewing it. It can make you sad, happy, laugh, smile, scratch your head, content, etc...
