@UniqueDoug, you are your own worst enemy, but i don't think you have the balls to face facts head on and deal with what needs to be done. Same old, same old..... Nobody here is gossiping. I used to think I could hang with him and have a beer etc. but no more. Now he uses his mental health as a free pass.

I'll tell you why. I do have a bit of sympathy for troubled souls. I have my demons and to that point, I really wish him well, just as I hope I can make progress. I have memory issues and attention issues and they can be tough to deal with. I admittedly have, and am, struggling still, with my divorce. That part of me makes it easier for me to see what Doug is going through, BUT I am not drinking or smoking my way through it. I'm not out of control and having police show up, etc. I have a steady job and aspirations to be better and keep my life in order as much as I am able to do.

I foolishly thought after this past breakdown, he might emerge from the fire seeking to heal and be better, and get his shit together. I was dead wrong. He does not WANT to be better. In his eyes, we are seeing him wrong and he's just fine. Well, that isn't true and it means everything he does and says is intentional and by his design. Therefore...**** him. He can crash and burn a dozen times and one time he may not come back. There will be a string of posts about his passing, both good and bad, his name will come up once in a while, and life will go on.

I'll offer my opinion, but not my support. He's a mess that is happy being a mess. Maybe I should envy the fact that he has embraced his train wrecks, while I still fight to avoid mine.

Ok, i get all all of that, but why do you care so much about him? And i ask out of ignorance here as I really don't know, but is/was he a friend? a good friend? I know you're not related etc, so it' snot like you're caring for family, so why does his situation elicit so much empathy from you?

I explained the empathy. I did consider him an on-line friend. We have both been over there for a very long time. I used to live in Georgia not far from him. I don't care " so much" about him. The majority of my threads ( and I mentioned this) were ABOUT him, not TO him. I post in all types of threads, His is not getting any more attention than other threads I post it. I also hate when words are twisted or communication manipulated so I often go down the rabbit hole trying to make, and then reiterate, a solid point that can't be twisted around.

Everyone needs to recognize that there are 2 Dougs - the "normal" and the manic.



The manic Doug needs medicine, support, and empathy. His actions are not under his control. He is merely a "body" that is under the control of an out-of-control brain. Being aggressive toward him is not helpful to his condition, and he will be triggered farther. Unless you want his problem to get worse, simply offer good advice, or leave him alone. If you want him to get worse, your problems may be worse than his.



The normal Doug is simply who he is normally, and not out-of-control. He has a lot of strange ways and beliefs that many choose to rag on. That's fair. Seems to be a lot of "normal" people who won't accept him as he is - the good and the bad Doug.

I have no time for either and I think that is enabling his behavior to explain it away. Normal Doug needs to seek help for abnormal Doug, but he doesn't.

Normal Doug should practice humility and apologize or otherwise address abnormal Doug and ask that people be patient/understanding whatever.

If normal Doug sought help, abnormal Doug would fade.

The conclusion I draw is that there is is a messed up Doug and a VERY messed up Doug and neither one of them is very tolerable.

My comments in his thread are for others to read since Doug doesn't care to get well.

Why bother? He. Doesn’t. Care. It’s beyond obvious that nothing anyone says or does will change his behavior. Nobody can help him. Leave him alone and hope he figures it out before he’s locked away like our daughter-in-law.
