Last reassessment property values went down 15% or more.. So they raised tax rates so they lost exactly no money. Not looking forward to next time.

That increase is twice as bigglier than my total bill. Must want more homeless? Lucky for them they are untouchable.

Ours is up about 30% in the last 5 years.
The scary part is that it is assessed about 40% below the market right now... |

Realistically, my house is probably worth $290k - $300k. In this crazy market, it is coming in at $408k. Problem with selling is that it also makes me a buyer in the same market.

Property and school taxes were about $1800 when we purchased in 2003. Minor increases until 2009 ( $2K )
Pricks on the school board are allowed to raise up to 3.8% every year without "special exceptions". Assholes raised them 3.8% every single year since and now it's up to almost $5K |

Prop 13 in California is at least one positive here, my property taxes have remained more or less doable with some minor increases. Bought our house in '08 and the "value" has doubled.

Like food, cars, gasoline, electric bills, the 'value' is getting krazy all over this nation......bought my house for ~72k in '97 today it's close to 4X that price, and sure I have reworked it all over that time...BUT other house down the street near the swamp went for 280k in the flood zone....

Mean, or median?
Interesting thing on my taxes this year... Retired from a mid-six figure job in Dec 20. Pension, understandably, is much less. However, not having to maintain an extra household in LA made it so I never had to make any 403B withdrawals and just lived off of some money that I received as part of my separation from work. The whole "need 70%" of your income is BS when you can cut an entire residence out of the equation. So here's the interesting part... I got to a question on the forms asking whether I had taken the third stimulus payment in 2021. Of course not. This was not a deduction. It was a straight $1200 add to my refund. My reported income was so low in 2021 that they decided I needed the money Y'all keep working, 'cause I'm looking to cash out on a lifetime of maxed-out OASDI contributions in a couple years For the OP, CO has a law in place (TABOR) where they have to return money collected that is in excess of the published budget. So, even though my assessment has close to doubled over the past 7 years, levies have decreased such that taxes are up only about $1000, and I have received a "kickback" every year. They actually put the money on the ballot every year trying to keep it for BS they want to do, but this county has repeatedly told them to pound sand. |

That sucks. I got a check for that amount mailed to me from IRS with no explanation. I assume it was either an overpay on the previous filing (wouldn't be the first time) or the third stimulus which they had been trying to force upon me through a debit card. Never activated that card and after 5 attempts to coerce me into doing so thought maybe they simply gave up and mailed a check. But then I did get another letter telling me to activate the debit card after receiving that check (which I threw in the trash) so at this point I've no idea whether I received the third stimulus or not. Guess I'll be answering that question with a question mark
