Mine is a 97, so hard to compare to the newer TJ's and JK's. It's more of a toy now, but it is a LOT of fun!

I wouldn't mind a JK for around town and trips and such, but with the density of trees around here, a 4 door would be a pain on the trails. Nor am I a fan of the current pricing for JK's. They sure ride nicely, even with a mild lift and larger tires.

From my "it's always something" department...

Went to move the XLR to get the Wrangler out to take pix with Heather's Jeep. Apparently my XLR needs to be driven more often. I got in, but couldn't start the car nor get out. Pulled the emergency release (it's just like the c6) and got out. Left my phone inside the car, though, and now cannot get it to open. Yep, it's always something!

Let me go mechanic on the XLR. I think I just need a can of WD 40.

There's no way to get into it with a dead battery? There is on a C6. Keyhole above license plate to open trunk, cable pull inside trunk to open door.

Yep, very familiar with that one since I had a c6 that I let sit too much, too.

The XLR is supposed to have something similar. However, the trunk isn't lifting.

You are putting the key in the keyhole and turning it and the trunk won't lift?

Yep. And the cover to the keyhole fell off in my hand. Maybe I shouldn't touch anything else!

Pros

Fun and sporty. Top comes off. Can have soft and/or hard top. Tons of fun mods to do. Off road fun to be had.

Cons

Some significant others think Wranglers are too rough riding. Gas mileage is not stellar.

I've had Wranglers for years and love them. Since mine hardly ever gets driven, though, and I have other rides, I've just not moved on to the JK. I love my TJ and have it modded just like I want.

This was the day I managed to lose my side step (still present in this pic) going through a rocky ravine, so I now have rocker rails. Not sure where the pix of actually going through the ravine are.

Went to get the wife's mustang out from winter storage a couple of years ago and found out the key would not open either door or the trunk, thankfully the hood wasn't fully latched so I was able to get the battery back in without having to get in the car first!

Ultimately figured out that never using the key means the cylinders will gum/freeze up over time. Combine this with a worn key and no go. Had a new key cut based in the VIN and spent several days spraying cleaner/lubricant into the cylinders. The doors now open with a key if necessary, the trunk is still a no go.

It has been a while, but my cousin had a Smurf blue CJ for awhile. My ride at the time was a fairly well modded 240Z so I got motion sickness riding in that thing; my finely calibrated butt often told me we were about to roll over.
My favorite story about the Jeep centers around duck hunting... we had a blind down in a hole and the Jeep was parked about 60 yards away up on the bank. Cousin draws a bead on a wood duck and unleashes a 3 inch magnum size 4 lead shot round right through the grille, radiator and windshield of the CJ. Killed the duck, and his vehicle in one fell swoop! We still laugh about that.

Kevin was like "Un, how'd you get the Jeep out without the XLR moving?!" Heather's boyfriend suggested I just push it out of the way with the Jeep.

Interesting. I did read on the XLR forum that WD40 might help the mechanism work. I used that, but (as they also said), it took two of us to get the trunk up, one to turn the key and the other to actually lift the trunk lid.

My new Brit neighbor picked up his new Grand Cherokee last night. He's so damned excited about not paying $9/gas for gas, he couldn't resist the Hemi. Now he's on the hunt for a Rubicon for himself (GC is for the wife, when she gets here).

Since my phone is now out of the XLR, I'll upload some pix of my Grand. Heather and I ran around in it today, and took pix of it with her Wrangler, too.

Any must-have options?

Love the blue on the JK above, by the way.
