Praying for the best for him. A set of ear plugs with a high noise reduction rating ( NRR of at least 30 ) will help.

"The beat" is fairly consistent and if you can imagine you're someplace else, it makes it go quick. Just think of it as a snug, warm sleeping bag on a cool night

My last two MRI's I did fall asleep in the tube I also brought my own ear plugs with a 34 NRR

I had an MRI years ago, and yes, it can be a little claustrophobic. Earplugs are a must, and the operator suggested that I close my eyes and put a towel over my face. Weird, but OK. I did that and didn't have a problem.

Hope all goes well. I tore mine last August while in Scotland. It was only part way torn so I left it go until I got home. They make a weird pop when they tear. Doctor said I could let it go if I wanted to so I did at my age.

MRI's really freak me the eff out, I have trouble. The ones I have had were on my back, and they have loaded me in feet first so my head was sticking out...that isn't so bad.
