Default What's a great score you've made?

Back in about 1978 or so I bought a shoe box of baseball cards at a garage sale for ten bucks. It was 700-800 cards mostly 1958-60. I kept several hundred singles and sold the rest to some guy at a motel for $50.

I only made great scores in Real Estate.. My greatest score is a 1700 sq/ft 3/2 1 car car port block home on 0.5 acres. Bought it in 2012 for $24000. Initial remodel + repairs added up to $16k, so, $40k was my total cost. Worth over $300k right now. So, worth over 700% from my total investment and over 1000% of what I paid for it.

Her name was Tina. Regret letting that one go.

Other than that, my current Vette for $34k was a big score.

Years back got a cherry "Civilian, AKA commerical" 1911 for $35 dollars. (It also came with a decent military type holster 5 magazines and 100 rounds of ammo.)

One of my BIL friends came home found his young son playing with the gun and his wife said no guns in my house. My BIL told me about the gun and I stopped by the place he worked at. Man had all the stuff there and said make me a offer. I only had $35 with me but offered a check at a lot more money. Man said just the money will do and I got the gun.

Also after a two week trip to Hawaii we stopped over at Vegas (Ceasers Palace) for 3 days. Waiting for the limo to take us to the airport go home I put a dollar chip in a huge slot machine by the door. It hit well and I paid for the whole vacation with a few bucks left over.

March 20, 1986, I bought 150 shares of Microsoft. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $4000, which at the time was a huge amount of money for me, as I was an E-5 in the Air Force, stationed at Barksdale AFB, LA. Accounting for splits and several stock sales (no additional purchases) over the years, I now own just over 22,000 shares. Those shares have taken quite good care of my wife and I.

About 3 years ago, I was in McDonalds early on morning. While I was standing at the counter, I saw a small banking envelope beside the debit card machine.

Had 7 $100 bills plus a receipt. I was not about to hand it over to those idiots. Over the next 2 weeks I called the bank, main offices and with all the stuff on the receipt, they came up with nothing.

So, I went over to our Vet and put it all down on account to be used for our pups.

My new job. To be able to transition from one mid-6-figure job to another with ease was very validating. Relationships for the win.

Twenty-three years old working my way through college I had the incredible luck of getting a gorgeous 18-year old student athlete to date me. Forty-two years later we're still together.

On the earthly front: retiring on my own terms, with a house that I designed and built myself, in a part of the country that I have long dreamed about, with hobbies that I adore, in a small town where I know many of the residents by first name.

Lot's of high end vaping tubes that I would buy for $80-100 and sell for anywhere between 5-10x my cost some even more. Flipped dozens of them.
The 2 brass and the copper one laying down I was offered $5k for them and sold them shortly after I got them. Paid a combined $500 for the 3.
The value of the silver ones was over $16k USD when I sold them.

Too many to count or list here. I bought muscle, sports, antique and special interest cars all my adult life as well as real estate and made some GREAT scores!
