As I write this we are about ½ way though with the 12-14” we are supposed to get. I already went out and plowed the driveway once with my 4x4 PU.

I’m as ready as I can get (I HOPE) PU truck has a full tank of gas, gas helps in traction and you never know if we will have power after a heavy storm. Plowing uses gas at a heavy rate (yardage not mileage) I have a ¼ mile long hilly curvy driveway with a 40x80 paved parking lot at the end

Tractor with chains& scoop loader is full of diesel and block warmer is plugged in (going to go way below 0 they say for a few days... Have a bunch of sand if needed to put on after all is plowed.

Have generator with gas and plenty of food stores if needed. If no power in area no internet as the cable system will be down along the roads.

At best, I can hope for enough crappy weather to give me another three-day weekend like I enjoyed last week.

I guess it's passing us to the south Brian, not expecting any snow until Sunday, but instead of shoveling we're just freezing our asses off with -30C...YYYYUCK! And by the way the F an C scales run into each other just around 4o below so that's bloody cold in either one.

And to think, you were "at home" with this type of weather - just a few years ago.

Just got back in from getting the tractor ready and wire tying the snow fence ( supposed to get gusts in the 30s tomorrow) Got too cold and tired in the dark yesterday to finish. Double-O ring chains on the 4WD diesel tractor tires, snow blade on the loader arms. Extra container of diesel, and one of gas for the backup generator. Carhartts are hanging up to thaw out and dry.

Note to self: next year get this stuff done when it's still in the 40s in December, not 15 degrees and six inches of snow.

Note back to self: you say that every year.

Winter storm warnings
Snow storm targets New York City region

Updated: Jan 02, 2014 3:00 PM EST
By MYFOX NEW YORK STAFF

Connecticut's governor has called for the early release of state workers and schools across the state were closing early as a coastal winter storm bears down on the Northeast.Snow, bone-chilling cold across upstate NY

With a winter double whammy hitting New York from the east and west, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says state resources will be stretched thin and highway crews may not be able to keep up with the wind-driven snow.
Snow and bone-chilling temperatures are greeting morning commuters across New York on the first work day of 2014, with some upstate areas expected to get more than a foot of snow by the weekend.NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The National Weather Service (NWS) in New York issued winter storm warnings for the tristate area for Thursday at 6 p.m. through Friday at 1 p.m.

A blizzard warning is in effect for Long Island because blowing snow could cause white-out conditions.

The winter storm warning is in effect for Connecticut, New Jersey and New York, including all of New York City.

Significant snow, sleet, or ice may accumulate and impact travel.

Forecasters expect 8 or more inches of snow, winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, temperatures in the single digits to teens, and visibility at times to be limited to one quarter to one half mile.

"The accumulating snow, along with areas of blowing snow, will be capable of producing hazardous travel conditions," the NWS said.

NJ Transit is cross-honoring tickets among all modes of transportation through the end of service on Friday which will allow customers to use their ticket or pass on alternate travel modes - rail, light rail or bus system wide.

The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert citywide that began at 1 a.m. on Thursday.

N.Y. Governor Cuomo encouraged drivers to utilize mass transit as there may be closures of major highways across the state including, the NYS Thruway I-87, Interstate 84, Interstate 684 and the Long Island Expressway.

Conn. Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging residents to take it slow and avoid travel during the height of the storm Thursday night and has directed the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut's network of shelters to ensure that the state's most vulnerable people are protected from the severe cold weather.

bought this thing last year, 28" version:

already used it twice this winter. Has heated grips; I thought that was kinda sissy-fied at first... but now I only run it with the heaters on.

^^^ By the looks of that map, I'm only in the 3"-6" camp.
I'll bring my laptop home just in case, but most likely I'll be going to work.
